T-Mobile bringing MDA Compact V, Vario V to Europe in June
We're thinking that HTC's Touch Diamond2 and Pro2 will be available all over the place by the time 2009 draws to a close, but if you want to be one of the first kids on the block to get in on that action, T-Mobile's European outposts are a good place to start looking. The carrier announced at MWC last week that Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK will all bet getting a version of the Diamond2 -- the MDA Compact V -- "by" June, while the Pro2 variant -- the MDA Vario V -- will launch more definitively "in" June. As usual, T-Mobile has chosen to customize its models a bit versus the standard fare that HTC is offering; opinions on the new look will vary, but if they're the first to launch, we think we can overlook some design niggles.

Hopefully this is just a change in design and smal branding issued and no feature disabling...
They only recently started stocking the Vairo IV in the UK. Luckily I jumped ship due to their lag between HTC release and theirs. Glad I did, because I would be gutted to have the Touch Pro when the Touch Pro 2 is just around the corner.
That's all good for T-Mobile EU but what about us US T-Mo folks?
WTF.... I agree, all we US customers have to choose from are the WING and the G1??? I have a wing and it is tired and I am replacing it with another HTC which was really overpriced,b ut I need something new. And a g1 will not cut it right now. Till they get cupcake and a decent non-sub gps coverage.
And this is why I love T-Mobile! I am stateside but thanks baby jesus I have friends in germany. Paying 3 dollars for a new device is always bomb.
Hey @Edward come on, the Shadow is a great phone. Non-touchscreen, of course, but it is still a great device.
I have the G1 and the Shadow and I am happy with both. I don't see why everyone is so concerned with this 'Cupcake' nonsense. I just got my RC-33 update and I have been very happy. But, this isn't a G1 discussion...
I go to Germany in July and, if I am lucky, I will be coming home with an MDA Vario V!!!
Hey, Nathan.. I will be in July in Germany as well, have some friends there :-0) Can you tell me how would I be able to get this phone? Is it going to work in US (T-mobile USA). How about the contract in Germany? Please help me do this. Thank you!!!
This touch pro2 is one of the phones I am considering to replace my HTC touch HD or my Samsung Omnia, but I doubt that I'll be willing to wait until june.
My cellphone operator ( 3 ) told me that in the beginning of April the Nokia N97 will be available nearly for free with the usual 6 months contract.
Here in Europe in fact, we are bound to the operator that subsidized our phone only for 6 months, after this period you can unlock your phone, sell it if you want, and get another subsidized phone; 3 months therfore is a very long time.
One (I for exemple) could get the N97 in April, and in september be already eligible to get this touch pro2 or some of the new handsets that supposedly are on their way, such as the Archos with Android, the htc whitestone, the Toshiba TG01, SE Idou, the new Samsungs with inbuilt projector or with HD capabilities , etc, etc.
That's why an early release date here in Europe, is much more important than in the US market, where people are tied to their phones and carriers for more than one year (is'nt that so?).
I'm afraid that being beaten by 3 month by the N97 to the release date, will be a big handicap for these (admidtedly beautiful ) phones (at least on the european market).
I don't know where you're from, but in Germany you are locked into the carrier's contract that sold the subsidized phone for 24 months. Maybe you can sell your phone after 6 months, but you will not get a subsidized phone after this period, you'd have to buy a phone for its full price then.
@ Nightflyer
Really? We in Denmark are bound for 6 months only. I thought that this rule would apply to all EU countries.
Do you know if it would have the 1700 3G?
It should be a crime for T-Mobile USA to still be selling the Wing. Unusable with XDA.
