Motorola's iDEN i465 passes muster with the FCC

Well Motorola's first iDEN QWERTY effort has sailed through the FCC's proving grounds and will apparently, or at least potentially, grace our push-to-talk pockets one day. We chattered about this wee red phone a bit on a recent podcast because from the looks of the pics we've seen, that keyboard will saw through fingers, and for a messaging handset, that's just not good planning. If Boost Mobile literature is to be believed, then we can potentially expect this around June 15th this year, though, don't hold us to that. Thanks FCC for testing and ensuring that this handset met 47 CFR 2.1093 (c) for RF exposure and found to be compliant with the limits specified in 47 CFR 2.1093(d)(2). Top job, love your graphs.

nice cell phone!
what the f.....
this is the most ugly cell phone i've ever seen....
look at the blue tooth LED on the left, why can't it built into the GUI ?
the QWERTY keyboard is too small for human being....i think it is made for aliens....
While I agree with you that the phone is ugly, it's cheaper and takes less battery power to use an LED instead of a GUI for Bluetooth. Also, name for me one phone today (touchscreen or real QWERTY keyboard) that isn't too small for all but young children's hands??? If the buttons were to truly be big enough for most of us, then the phones would be easily about 6 to 8 inches long, and a solid 4-6 inches wide. Last I checked, most phones are no longer than 6 inches, and no wider than 3 inches at most. So, small formfactor dictates ultra-small keys.
Personally, I wouldn't even consider this as a true iDEN option. The i9 Stature (aka Cabo) could have been a great phone had Motorola been allowed to at least add WiFi to it, but Sprint nixed that idea (WiMAX would have been even better). Ah well...looks like Nextel will continue to be treated as a 2nd class, rejected step-child by Sprint proper. And yet the company continues to wonder why they lose so many subscribers quarter after quarter.
I thought it was ugly the first time, but its looking better each time I see it. What's looking better is how smart the design is .....The screen is a bit cramped, but most folks use a laptop for the Internet anyway. The screen is large enough for texting or photo viewing.
It maybe time to start buying some Sprint stock.....with the Palm Pre at the top end and Boost covering the low end ..Sprint maybe in a sweet spot for '09-10.
I am getting this!
