After a
long, long wait, the Nokia
E71x (which looks to be the official name, not just E71) finally looks poised to bow any week now, and we've just landed a few more shots of the sucker as it rounds third base. Our tipster confirms that WiFi has been left untouched alongside HSDPA -- thank goodness -- and the phone's S60 build has been left "relatively untouched" by AT&T. Pricing is looking to fall somewhere between $150 and $200 after rebate. Personally, we'd love to see it run $99, but maybe we're dreaming.
[Thanks, Chris]
i dont see the need for the X...but then again that just sounds sexy....i like the sound of that e71X lol......and finally att understands that we hate there software and crap and ugly logo's all over our devices!! I hope this is true.....
The E71 unlocked is right around $300. Standard $200 subsidy would make it $100, right?
I've moved waaaaay past this device, at least this version of it since the price of the unlocked device is pretty reasonable. Besides, I'm wondering if the "x" version will have both of its nuts by the time ATTWS is done using its cleaver, ala the E62, 6682, etc., et al.
Will it have FP2 , my plans is to change the Product Code on my Pakistani phone running Middle East Product Code ( long story ) and update it to FP2

AT&T leaving an S60 device "relatively untouched" would be like saying Terrell Owens is a relatively difficult teammate. There is absolutely no way the carrier didn't make *some* changes; otherwise why the need for the "x"?
Hopefully those changes don't ruin the phone in the same vein as the 6682, E62, etc. If Nokia can get its app store out quickly enough, this could become the phone to finally push S60 into the minds of American phone users.
I believe the biggest differences between the E71 and E71x is the X loses the front camera for video calls and it runs the updated Feature Pack 2
The e62 was to the e61 as the e63 is to the e71 today. They didn't cripple it, they just picked the cheap model.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I, an at&t sales rep, just got word that I have to go to training course on Tuesday for the E71x.
This means that we should be recieving the phones in the corporate stores within the next couple of weeks. I will post my impressions of the phone when I get back and try to get some price points for everybody as well.
AT&T never crippled the E62 since, compared to the E61i, it sucked to begin with. They actually picked a very goof and popular device with the E71 and their version is stated to run Feature Pack 2 so I'm anxious to see how it does when it hits the mainstream.
Think it'll have a mandatory data plan? If it does I'd rather get the unlocked version and save that extra money, plus not take the chance that AT&T will suck the life out of the thing.
$199 after MIR, launches March 31.
I'm anxious to see if it employs any Eseries capabilities what so ever. Knowing AT&T they probably tried put the software from the 6650 into this thing, and made it so the 3 quick launch buttons work. And I don't understand why they can't keep the front facing camera and set it up to work with video calling on AT&T's network. Total bullshit. Either way, none of this matters since I just picked up an E71 for $321 with shipping, and I absolutely love it. I appreciate seeing this phone coming to AT&T, but shit guys, it's a little late. This could have been a hot seller, if it beat the Bold out of the gates and was exactly like the unlocked one. I just hope for the sake of Nokia and the people who buy this phone that it still is a true Eseries inside. I have to admit though, it would be nice to have some of the additions of FP2.
