We had a chance to check out the
ginormous, hand-built recreation of Samsung's
Messager on site in Chicago this week, and yep, we can confirm it -- this is one big phone. Be that as it may, we're still a bit surprised to hear that it's Guinness Record-setting big, but we guess Cricket's angle here is that the Messager is fully functional. There was a healthy line to use the phone when we stopped by; folks were given the option of making a call (over speakerphone, naturally) or sending a text message, but seeing how the display was just as functional as the rest of the phone, we wouldn't want to call up any numbers we didn't want half of the city of Chicago seeing. Follow the break for video of this beast in action -- and after seeing the amount of footwork involved in simply dialing a number, let's all hope phones never actually get this big, shall we?
What's inside the door?
probably a battery/way to charge the fricken thing.
Can you surf porn on it?
"Up close" eh?...
I guess engadget isn't special enough for the "hands-on treatment"
How... "green" of Samsung and Cricket.
*Eyeroll*
A giant "messager?" Count me in.
Yeah, the spelling is ridiculous.
Whoa that's the actual spelling, I thought it was a typo.
It's recession time. You know how much more ink would be required to print an "n"?
But does it come with free texting?
that looks like a nokia
I guess I can't complain about the keyboard buttons being to small.
Messager isn't a word...
Neither is RAZR or PEBL, but you didn't see anyone complaining.
I'm gonna need bigger pockets...
Ditch the keyboard and i would buy it.
Seriously i want to fly to Chicago just to play with it! You don't see any of the big carriers doing this do you. Bad A**!
Do we have a phone number for this thing yet?
that thing seriously looks like an enlarged nokia 6120C in green. wtf?
Ooh, Whoever gets the phone number of this thing can then call in the middle of the night. *evil* Can you imagine the vibration on that sucker?
I was walking by yesterday and some kid called his mom (I think to win a t-shirt or something). It went something like:
Kid: I'm calling you on a giant cell phone.
Mom: What are you doing downtown?
Crowd: Ooooh!
Kid: I heard about this great opportunity and had to come over.
Crowd: Hahahaha.
I wonder if it slides closed like the regular messenger??????????? hmmmm?
I think if it slides closed you could take off someones head with it. Also I think all smart phones should have a slide out keyboard.
That lady is kind of a tool. I mean she's probably getting the crowd into it (so therefore doing her job), but I just want to give people like that a sedative.
