Venezuela shows off locally-produced El Vergatario phone
There are already cheap phones in the world, yes -- but very few can claim to run under $14, and even fewer can claim to be made in Venezuela. In fact, the C366 "El Vergatario" -- introduced by none other than Hugo Chavez himself -- will be the very first phone ever produced on Venezuelan soil, a partnership between the government and minority outside investors including Chinese manufacturer ZTE. It'll cost 30,000 bolivar when it goes on sale, and plans are already in place to offer it throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (to anyone not expecting fanciness like cameras or media players, anyhow).

Oh Man! I really luv to see my country here, but not like this... No like this T.T damn you, chavez! go home... I mean cuba XD
What's the matter Switch?. It's not that bad, I guess you were too busy booing Magglio Ordonez on saturday to recognize one of the very few actual achievements of our goverment
"verga" is slang for penis in spanish, this phone's name translates roughly as "The Cocksman".
Our President luv us =/
'Vergatario' is slang, yes. But in Vzla 'Verga' means anything but that. In Vzla -in this case- it means The Sh!t, The Bomb, etc.
Now, after seeing the phone I come to the conclusion that Chavez is indeed, delusional.
The operator Telefonica (Movilnet competitor) is also is finishing a plant to produce its own unit in Venezuela, which expect to be better that the Vergatario unit, this could be the beginning of a technological career between the two more important operators in Venezuela
Chinesse technology, Venezuelan assembly and avertised by Chavez? How long does it last? a week???
Chavez is a fool, it's cheaper to assemble the Chinese made parts in China than in Venezuela. The phone could have cost only $1 if it was totally made in China and they could have given it away free with the talk plan.
Of course efficiency has nothing to do with it and the Venezuelan taxpayers will lose more of their money in another Crazy scheme cooked up by Chavez.
What's next? a Chavista I-Phone called "Pipe Pelao" followed by a Chinese made, Venezuelan 'assembled" laptop called "Verga-pela".
The Chinese want our oil, that's all
In Venezuela "Vergatario" (this phone's name) means "a man with a big penis" . It's slang, mostly used in the eastern states. It is , in fact, a despicable word so, you tell me: what else should we expect from that idiotic dumbass called Hugo Chavez? I cannot believe that a lot of people over there support every stupid, nasty thing that he does. The first time I heard about this I was dumbfounded...I won't be surprised if he names the next made-in-Venezuela gadget after another vulgarism....what a waste!
In the western states, like Zulia they say "a la verga" to impress somebody next to you when somebody is going to make a comment about something that happened that impressed him/her. It's not an educated slang, derogatory for that matter.
"vergatario" is the most dare person willing to take challenges. The phone will probably be very cheap in quality.
OMG what a bunch of mentally ill people post here!!. Unless you guys stop the hatred against Chavez you will never see any good anywhere in Venezuela!! You should be proud that even though it's not the best cell phone ever, at least it's a good start for a country who has never manufactured a single cell phone ever!!!!. This show that we're on the right direction, or is it better to just import all cellphones and never worry about making one ourselves? Ignorants!!! keep worrying about the cellphone's name instead of what's more important, the fact that Venezuela is becoming a producer instead of just a consumer!!!!
Pedro you are a retard!!! Other than oil and other raw materials, Vzla does not produce nor does it manufacture anything. That's why the trade deficit is so great. This is nothing more than another populist attempt of Chavez to make people believe Vzla in on its way to progress. Fuck you and fuck Chavez....By the way have you ever been in Venezuela??? I have...I grew up there, I know what I'm talking about... If you don't live or have been there, I challenge you to move there and live under Chavez' regime. Minimum wage is under $300, which will probably suit you, you dumb fuck.
