Apple touted quite a few new iPhone features at
yesterday's OS 3.0 event, but now that the
beta build is trickling out, there's been a bevy of unearthed discoveries to further pique our interests. First up, the gang at
Boy Genius Report found an option to enable the "Find My iPhone" service in the
MobileMe settings. Unfortunately, that's all we've got, but we wouldn't put it past Cupertino to build some me.com-linked location tracker that'd be the envy of Orwell himself -- hey, that'd be pretty useful if you accidentally left the mobile in a taxi. Also in the MobileMe section, it now says Publish Video when you go to publish an image. It's an odd typo, to be sure, and while video recording has been near the top of our wishlist for some time, we're not about to get our hopes up. Finally,
Mac Rumors is reporting that a hacker has dug up and successfully activated the USB tethering capabilities. Apple's
Scott Forstall had mentioned the devs were building it in, but were still in talks with the carriers. As to whether any or all of these functions will actually end up in the final OS 3.0 build, your guess is a good as ours. For now, check out more pics of the MobileMe additions after the break.
[Thanks everyone who sent this in!]

iShock:
If you happen to lose your iPhone you can turn on this nifty little app that will shock and electrocute the burglar continuously!!... i like it.
oh and any tips? i'm gonna get the iPhone (please don't try and convince to get anything else, I've made up my mind) but i don't know whether i should wait 'til "the summer"... advice?
I'd definitely wait till summer if you can. If they don't come out with a new iPhone/iTouch, they might be making some pretty slick updates by late June/early July, and it'll certainly be worth the wait. If you buy now and they update, you'll be kicking yourself in the summer.
@Rick C
I think it's great that you decided on an iPhone. I've had my 3G since it came out and I love it. I couldn't use any other phone now. While 3.0 is bringing some great updates, I think we will see new hardware very close to the release of 3.0. So, my suggestion is: if you can hold out until 3.0 gets released and there is no news on a new iPhone, then I'd say buy it. But that's just my $.02
Awesome, I can wait. I'm frikin excited tho. Guess I just have to keep truckin with my bb pearl...
Rick - I too am a convert. I should have my iPhone 3g tomorrow. I am coming from a T-Mo G1. AT&T is selling iPhone 3g's 8 Gig (refurb) for $99. I have never bought a "new" iPod as Apple does a great job on QA on refurbed products. I would go that route if you are going to be new to AT&T. You still have to sign the 2-year deal. But for $99 you can get all the iPhone fun now and then if new hardware is launched grab it then.
Thats exactly what I'm doing, refurbs are so much better. Thanks!
HEY, If you guys need on a DEV account to use iPhone OS 3.0 just send me an email. You will also be included in our up and coming app beta test!
