Sony Ericsson Idou, now in silver?
So far, we've only seen the Idou in black, but Sony Ericsson does like to play with the palette -- and sure enough, we're now seeing a shot of a silver model for the first time. SEMC Blog doesn't know whether this is a canceled or to-be-announced version, but like everyone, we're hoping it's the latter.

Looks nice for a silver phone.
Oh Great Another SE Phone that will be a release nightmare
According to the latest reports SE lost 50% of its sales in the last quarter and I for one wonder why they did'nt loose 99,99%.
Yes this Idou looks great but so did the X1 Experia when it was first presented. One year later when finally was available to consumers it turned out to be the worst Win Mobile Phone on the market bar none.
I really hope this Idou will manage to reverse the company fortunes and to be a great phone but I seriously doubt it , not only because of SE unfortunate history but because it will have to fight with babies such as the Nokia N97, HTC Thoth and Whitestone, the Archos/texas Instruments smartphone-PMP, Toshiba TG01, etc.
Personally after reading the latest news from SE I even doubt that by the time this Idou makes it to the stores shelves the company will still exist.
judging by all your posts you seem to have a real vendetta against sony ericsson, if anything the x1 is one of the best WinMo phones around although like any handset it does have it's share of problems. The Idou when it comes out won't be up against the HTC Thoth, Whitestone or Archos or Toshiba handset. It will be going up against other high-end camera phones. The N97 won't be without it's share of problems when it comes out too, just like the N96 and N95. The other handsets you mentioned are WinMo smartphones, with the exception of the archos/TI one which i'm not sure about. The only handset that will be going up against these handsets will be the X2, which will probably run on WinMo 6.5 or Android.
Most people who own the X1 are fairly happy with it and if you have or had one xda-developers can help make your experience with it even better.
I hope they completely revisit how they do things with the Idou. Its a great looking phone and I love to at least have the chance to buy it unlike the X1 (which I never got to use, cause I never saw one).
Companies are almost shooting themselves with these super early announcements anymore. If the Idou would come out next week, yeah it would be a hot little phone (again, assuming you could buy one and it didn't cost $arm+leg) the longer it lags, the less people are going to care. Look at the X1, its feature set was great when it was announced. You keep seeing it happen though. At this point I'm even questioning the Pre. If they'd have gotten it out shortly after the announcement they would of been ok, at this point I think people are starting to wane and waiting to see what else comes down the road.
If Sony can release this tomorrow, on a carrier, for a reasonable price, and not rush it out full of bugs they'll be ok. Keep waiting and the competition is going to beat them to the punch each and every way.
Maybe with the leadership change they'll focus on this and get it to market. Before the go out of business.
Have you ever touched an X1 KilgoreTrout? It´s probably the BEST Win mobile device out there for now.
After some tweaking it´s amazing.
I take the occasion to answer also @ MNDL632
First I want to make clear that I have nothing at all against SE nor any other cellphone maker (why should I? I'm not an ex employee or anything similar) I even remeber having had an Ericsson phone long ago , before cellphones started having cameras and colour screens, and I remember it was'nt bad.
And I really hope that this Idou will turn out to surprise me and prove me wrong, in which case I'll be happy to buy one, but the fact is that I doubt it.
As for the X1 I stand by my words: it is an unmitigated disaster.
In my country (Denmark) it has been widely available since the beginning of january and the danish equivalent of Craigslist (DBA) is crowded with posts of people trying to get rid of their X1s and finding no takers.
The blog pages are full of people very angry for having being sold the worst Win Mob. phone to be found on the market.
To try to cut the costs incurred in having the device built by HTC and installing a proprietary OS , SE had to save on essential components such as g-sensor, accelerator, maps for GPS, support for flash video or youtube, etc, etc.
The hardware is plagued by design faults too, the most evident of which is the lip around the screen that makes it impossible to tap on the touch screen around the edges of the screen and the buttons on the sides that make it nearly impossible to hold the phone without pressing them.
My provider only one month ago offered the X1, The Omnia and the TouchHD for the same 230 USD (about) plus 40$ a month with a 6months contract with voice and data.
Now the prices for the Omnia and the touchHD is still the same, (the Omnia even requires 3 weeks waiting) , but the price for the X1 is already dropped to less than 200$ .
It must mean something or what?
I myself have tried to play a bit with the X1 of a collegue and I sincerely got sorry for the poor sucker, who in fact asked me if I would be intrested in getting it in exchange for my HTC touchHD, but as you might guess, I politely declined.
But you don't have to belive me: try to go on "Mo.Da.Co" and read some of the posts in the threads dedicated to the X1 Experia and see what the folks who actually payied for one of those things think about it.
It's not really a compelling buy in the US either. Overpriced for the US market, plus I read it has the same cracking problem that some of the GSM Treo Pros did. I normally prefer unlocked but I just don't think you need to pay $800USD(official Sony price) anymore when comparable unlocked phones can be found for $600 or less.
However, an importer is selling the X1 for under $600, so then it could be a decent buy. But those other problems mentioned by the Dannish person make me wonder if one should just pass on this device period. Even if XDA, as kits mentioned below, released a cooked ROM, the physical problems can't be changed.
@tande, i agree with what you are saying regarding the really early announcements, it doesn't look like the Idou will be coming out for a while though, they're still developing the OS, although it will be symbian they'll have their own interface on top. Let's just hope it still has some of the best specs around when it does finally come out.
@KilgoreTrout did you use X1 even for a day? Out the box, it's way better than almost all WinMo phones out there. And definitely the best with AT&T 3G. And visit XDA for more help with X1 and they probably will make you feel X1 is one of the best smart phones around.
