The past few days have seen the alleged leaks of a couple batches of
Windows Mobile 7 screenshots, suggesting Microsoft's already hard at work on the successor to 6.5 -- something we've heard in the past, and given the state of 6.x, a rumor that isn't difficult to believe. To say the leaks look sketchy, though, would be an understatement; most prominently, none of them match, with different styling elements applied to every capture. Best case, we figure these are mockups -- not functional shots from an actual device or an emulator, but early, off-the-cuff stabs at a design language from a usability expert's late-night Illustrator session somewhere deep within Redmond. We like some of what we're seeing -- there are definitely at least a few elements here that look thoroughly modern -- but if there's any basis in reality to these, we're worried about the ill-conceived idea of putting battery strength and volume (or signal strength, depending on the shot) at the bottom of the display. Needless to say, there are very good reasons that kind of information gets consolidated to the top, not the least of which is that your thumbs aren't transparent. At least ours aren't, and if yours are, you should probably get that looked at.

Does anyone care ? Seriously.
Yes. A lot of us care. WM is still arguably the most versatile mobile OS, capable of doing things that other OSes (ahem, APPLE) are *still* playing catch-up with. In all honesty, WM loses to others like Apple only as far as style.
If WM steps up their style, as the WM7 rumors have been suggesting, this platform has a good shot at leaving everything else in the proverbial dust.
Do *YOU* not care about the future of Mobile OSes? If so, why in haydes are you commenting on Engadget MOBILE?
I hope this OS has Copy/Paste. I'm pretty sure it will, cus only the most fuqed-up companies would neglect to put that on their OS...
i care. i've been using WinMo for a couple of years now and really the only thing wrong with it is how it looks. as far as function goes, it does everything i could possibly ask a phone to do and it works so well with my other MS devices. to say nobody cares about WinMo 7 is very close minded.
WinMo is an open platform with tons of support. meaning, it is very easy to add apps, most of which are free. at one point, every time i saw an iPhone Appstore commercial, i would have a similar app on my phone (for free) the next day.
i'm personally going to give webOS a shot pretty soon cause it seems like it does everything WinMo does but that's not to say i won't back if 7 is good enough.
My Invisa-Thumb syndrome isn't normal? Uh-oh...
^^Nope, Not really.
(yawn)
That interface has been purported as SmartPhone version, not Professional PocketPC. That means that there will be hardware keys to get to the context menues.
Even if that were not the case, you only have to put your fingers out of there a mere millisecond to catch a glimpse of the battery and signal info.
IM software sounds cool...
lol
A lot of people care.
Symbian, Android, OS X Mobile and Windows Mobile will be here for a long time... Symbian and WinMo have weaknesses and they also offer an alternative to iPhone mistakes, so new versions with a nice GUI will get the best of both worlds..
Hopefully what happened in the mp3 market won't happen again. Get away, clones !!!
Bring it already
i doubt these are real but they do look nice at least. hopefully MS is taking notes (except for the battery and signal indicator's positions).
@ mobile enthusiast. Your funny.
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.
Additionally, it would be easier to know that you responded to me if you actually clicked reply to my message. In case you didn't notice, engadget uses a threaded message response system with sub-conversations. Cool stuff. Use it. And respect that WM, love it or hate it, is still alive and strong.
