T-Mobile announces April 21st "private launch event" in NYC

Well well well. Well. What do we have here? Apparently the cats and kittens over at T-Mobile have something special planned on Tuesday, April 21st. We've just gotten a very brief email letting us know that something was going down, but without any other detail. Obviously our gadget-alarms started clanging, and the way we see it we've only got a few things to get excited about. Will we see the launch of Cupcake? Could this be the official US unveiling of the Magic? Or perhaps we'll finally get to see the new Sidekick which just hit the FCC. Look -- anything is possible, but whatever happens, we'll be there. What do you guys think is in store?

They've done an opening like this for every sidekick.
It should not be about Sidekick. T-Mobile does not need a special event to release sidekick. At least not this kind of special event. It looks little more serious than a sidekick event. Magic and updated Android would be a good guess at this point.

My bet is on the Sidekick. I know that's what *I'd* like to see more of. I think this device has the potential to really come out of nowhere and surprise everyone. I know nothing about it other than the following:
1) Microsoft owns Danger now (which could result in a more open development platform, app store, and lots more advertising money)
2) It runs on a new OS
3) It will supposedly have a 3.2" 854x480 screen.
The screen is what I'm so excited about. I've always felt that to have a truly desktop-like web browsing experience, you need an 800-pixel-wide screen. None of that zooming in/out nonsense. But will the CPU, OS, and browser app be up to snuff such that it can display web pages accurately and bring them up fast?
The "G2" HTC Magic looks ugly as sin. And I think only teens really care about the sidekick. Those of us that are adults have moved onto bigger and better things. Has anyone thought it could just be an andriod device? Possibly from Samsung? I guess we'll know on April 21st...

I would like to see them reveal the lineup of upcoming 3G phones. We know they are working on the expansion, and rave about it. But wi6thout Phones that are taking advantage of it, what good is all the expansion?

Guys this has nothing to do with handsets, T-Mobile has a HUGE new plan change for the good. They are not doing any price increases, if anything there adding more minutes for less money, and bundling certain things like mobile 2 mobile. This is confirmed, not a rumor.
Confirmed by whom, you? Link to a T-Mobile press release or it's still just a rumour.
Please be a new Android phone. My Verizon contract is up and I'm looking to make a switch.
I am with you Dave! My Verizon contract is up on the 18th and I am waiting on a new Android phone before I switch to T-Mobile.
Hoping: G2 and cupcake.
If they announce the G2/Dream, they MUST need to announce cupcake as it's required on that phone (and G1 users will rejoice). The 3G announcement makes sense, but that's more appropriate at some conference vs. a off-the-schedule announcement. And any changes to calling plans was already announced earlier this year.
If they throw out a few more tidbits to the media and I guarantee they'll get some Apple-ish hype generated (Tmo--you listening?).
Lets just say I work for a specific company that would know this... It is for new plans that are coming out. These plans ARE very aggressive and really the only price point that is increasing is the Family Allowance charge is going from 1.99 to 4.99. The rest of the changes are for the good, meaning things are being bundled, maybe M2M on certain plans will be included instead of an add on. More minutes for less money on most of the plans. You can believe me or not. I can honestly tell you it has NOTHING to do with handsets, If anything they will be announcing the launch dates of the new devices. G2 comes out in Mid June. G3 is slated for Dec.

You know you shouldn't be discussing TMO info online. It's apparent you work for them by the info your putting out.
The plans have already been announced. But they're not going to plan a press conference for already announced plans.
OH and its 4/21 has there been an update on this yet?
Personally I think it could very well be a "New Plans, 3G expansion, Cupcake to go along with our New Device" I think that's the only way they're planning this event if its not soley based around an individual device.
