Palm Pre Touchstone to be an entire product line, not just a charging dock
Although Palm's reps basically stick to the same script when giving out those lengthy Pre walkthrough demos, every now and again they'll let something interesting slip -- like the fact that the Touchstone inductive charging dock is just the first product in an entire line of Touchstone wireless products. It's not clear if that simply means that "Touchstone" will be Palm's wireless power branding, or if there will be Touchstone products that do more than simply charge devices, but we're certainly eager to find out more -- and hopefully soon. It would be nice to hop into the car and clonk your phone down on one of these things. Or the treadmill at the gym. Or...
A car holster that inductively charges is the best bet. I have no clue beyond that.
Why can't they design a phone that can be inductively charged by static electricity? Just rub it on the carpet or your crew cut!!
With more and more energy concerns in the world and they are still coming out with these HORRIBLY inefficient induction charging devices? gg
I was on Gizmodo (sorry!), and someone made the comment that with Palm being in the state that they are in financially, that there is no way Palm should be thinking about product lines, and the future... And I couldn't help but think how gigantically moronic that was - seriously, if a company is on the verge of bankruptcy, preparing a Hail Mary, then surely the best thing they can do is think through their products thoroughly. I'm glad Engadget readers are, by and large, more intelligent.
