Nokia 5800 XpressMusic starts hitting shelves in gray
Saying that the 5800's now available in gray might actually be a bit misleading, seeing how all variants of the phone are primarily black -- rather, the colored strip around the phone's beltline is now available in a strapping shade of gray. That marks a change from the red and blue that the phone initially launched in, though you won't find the gray version in just any country; just a handful of lucky markets in Asia and Europe (plus the US, go figure) have launched it so far, so keep your ear to the ground if you're looking to scoop it up locally. It'd look nice if they redid the entire phone in, say, red or white from top to bottom instead of repainting that strip alone, wouldn't it?

It is not special edition, it is classic NAM version that is only available in black/silver combination only!

I'm pretty sure all the NAM versions have the gray stripe. It's hard to see in certain lighting conditions, but it's def. there . . .
Gray would have been cool :) Got my blue one(which was hard to find, because there was almost only red ones in stores) 2 weeks ago here in Finland. Maybe in the future I will manage to somehow change the color of stripe by painting it or taking the stripe off and putting own made stripe there 8)
Do you really had the 5800 in hands ? The red or blue versions are NOT black at all, at least the models we have here in europe
. The face is dark red or dark blue, the side has this brillant stripe and translucent red/blue, and the back is a kind of red/blue gum. ar from most pictures i can see of the phone. It looks way better in really than all these black pictures i saw, lot of work has been made on coulors, textures and light. Nothing of this appears in such article, which seems to me far from what i can touch of the reality. NAM models are different ?
Officially it's the "silver" variation, not grey. Nokia's had it up for pre-order on the store for a while as the "black" variant but it's been renamed now that it's available.
It's been out in grey for ages.
Yeah, as far as I can tell, it seems to depend on the market -- some have had it for a while, others are just now getting it, some haven't gotten it yet. Love those staggered launches.
I had a warranty replacement after my Euro blue died during a firmware update. They replaced it w/ a gray NAM. That was about a month ago, so.. I guess I should feel lucky (or the guy in Puerto Rico who bought it from me- I couldn't wait 3 weeks w/o a phone & bought the N79).
Well, it's Nokia, what else would you expect?
I can vouch for smover. He speaks the truth on the color issue. Even in the promo shots from Nokia, you can see the slight color difference if you have an eye for such things. That said, black looks like a much better alternative to the other two. My blue one always looked a bit childish and I thought red looked to evil.
Yeah, my 5800 NAM, which I've had a for a few weeks now, is black and grey/sliver just like that: http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2009/03/31/unboxing-the-nokia-5800-us-version/
I'm not sure what's new about this.
I love this phone. I read so many great things from Asia and Europe but so MANY bad things from North America. I am so glad I did not listen to the BS reviews from Engadget/Mobile and some other wannabe professional reviewers!
Steve Litchfield FTW!! (Coming from a 'Yank') LOL
lol i was all excited about the gray stripe in this post.
i just told my friend i want a gray one now.
then i looked at my NAM in the light, and it is the gray one.
haha.
so either the NAM has been gray all along
or wishes do come true
