Again, I have never seen a reason to buy an HTC device unlocked when a carrier subsidized version can be had for hundreds less. I just don't see what hardware or software they put into these devices to make them climb that high.
Especially since you can unlock them and put new software on it from XDA... I had a Kaiser from Orange.. 2 weeks later, the only remnant of Orange on it was the logo on the back cover ;)

Does anyone know if AT&T will sell this phone?
I am sure they will eventually sell some version of it (or maybe the exact version!) as a replacement to the Fuze. Since T-M will have it and Sprint gets their version out in Q3, I am sure ATT will not be far behind. But remember, they are going to be busy all summer with the new iPhone! ;-)

Yup. iphone features = fail compared to the other phones that are coming out this summer/fall (TP2, TD2, Omnia HD, N97, G2, etc)

Sheesh ,,, $800.00, for me, that's a bit much. I just purchased a high end 4GB RAM (450GB memory) notebook for $700 with loads of other features. I was looking forward to this phone, but the price is so damn high. I look forward to the Nokia N97 in a few months then. I can wait.

Makes you wonder if HTC is aware of what happened to the Xperia X1 and it's unlocked price. It received great reviews but it was listed for $700 and in this economy, they didn't sell!!!!
They need to market and price this phone reasonably.
Yikes! That's a new laptop plus an external hard drive pricey. So I guess we are looking at around $500 through a carrier? That's still pricey. It's a shame.
No, carrier prices generally knock 1/2 to 2/3 off the price, which will put it somewhere in the 300-400 range maximum. If I had to bet, it would be about $350.
I think a lot of you guys are not understanding the way things work. Yes, these are high prices. No, they are not out of the ordinary. All cell phones, especially high-end/smart phones like these are priced within this same range. However, these prices only represent the phone itself. We don't pay the price(s) that carries pay for them. The carriers actually take a hit on the phones, and then they make it back ten-fold with contracts. That's why they lock us into 2 year deals.
I also don't understand why so many people are bringing up comparisons to netbooks and other equipment. They are completely different devices, and they have completely different purposes and uses.
Hey B, excellent post and very insightful. I can only speak for myself here ... but I'm aware and understand how the things work regarding (non carrier) unsubstidized and (carrier) substidized prices, etc. Just because I think/believe that $800 for a high-end pda/phone is high/pricey doesn't mean I don't understand how things work.
In these difficult economic times, I believe many people who are financially feeling the "pinch" will be more cognizant about what they purchase - especially when it comes to electronics. That being said, those individuals will perhaps invest more time and energy in researching and comparing a device with another before purchasing. As with time of course with everything, the high prices will drop to a more reasonable price. But as history has shown so vividly, companies and phone manufacturers will experience massive financial set backs and losses.

$726 for a Diamond2? Expansys USA is selling it for $574.99...
$575? Heck, you can get it cheaper ($530 with shipping) at other sites. I'm tempted to get it at this price but holding out for an AT&T release though I'm debating on the pro's & con's for that too....
