T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 video hands-on
Our first glimpse of T-Mobile's new 2009 edition Sidekick LX was all too brief, so we've jumped back in for some in-depth video hands-on (embedded after the break). One word of warning: this screen is truly incredible, and we can't be held responsible for any instances of sudden onset Sidekick envy. Traipsing through the OS, we found most everything to be responsive, intuitive and actually pretty feature-packed. The Facebook and Twitter apps are some of the best we've seen, and Laura our demo person was actually brave enough to shoot, upload and stream YouTube live on video with us. The browser had a bit of trouble with the visceral multimedia experience of Engadget.com, but overall seemed fairly together. The Download Catalog is a little barebones at the moment, but promising. Overall the hardware will be totally familiar to Sidekick users, but there are enough enhancements and refinements to make this lust worthy to folks on both sides of the Sidekick fence. It's comfortable in hand, with soft touch plastic and a super solid build, despite our best efforts at wrenching that swivel-and-tilt screen from its magical hinge. The phone hits T-Mobile on May 13th for $199 after rebates.

So, was this at the private launch event that went down yesterday?
That's what I was wondering I was watching engadget ALL DAY YESTERDAY and saw nothing. WTF Engadget?? You get all uppety about this big announcement and then when it comes you have nothing?!? But by God if Apple said there was a big announcement, there would be speculation blogged to death until the day and then live up to the second coverage..
WTF?!?
"was actually brave enough to shoot, upload and stream YouTube live on video with us."
Do you mean you recorded a video, then uploaded it, and then streamed it back to the device to watch it? Cause what you said almost make it sound like you're streaming live video from the device to youtube, which it can't do.
that video sucked. quality and walk through, can't wait for a better hands on though.
Not bad... still a toy with regards to other smart-phones.
Also, to the person holding the camera..... umm manual focus please? It isn't hard to manually focus a video camera so that the screen movements don't throw off the auto focus. PUH LEEZ
um...the Sidekick is NOT a smartphone. If you're on T-mobile and you want a good smartphone, you get the G1.
It certainly exceeded my expectations.
Wow, in a way i like it, but at the same time not really. I have the sk 2008 and a iphone. I have no 3G in my state for t-mobile so yea. I'll stay with my iphone on AT&T. Although thats a lot of improvements over the older sidekicks i cant wait to see a full review of this phone.
is it possible to get the side kick on AT&T. I mean if I buy one off ebay or some thing and just put my phone card in. Or do I need to try and find one unlocked in order to use it. Also would it work ok if I used it on some thing besides T-Mobile...
im sure its most likely possible just like with unlocked iphones you can buy it unlocked and use a tmobile simcard and there you have an iphone on tmobile service from my understanding you can have an unlocked sidekick but all you can do it text and talk but nothing else im assuming because of the data plan situation
You can possibly unlock the phone, but the data HAS to go to Danger for all of the services/apps so unless you are on T-Mobile you will only have voice capabilities...sort of kills the concept of the phone
