Skyhook CEO mentions Sony Ericsson X2 in passing
In an interview with GigaOM, it seems that the founder and chief exec of Skyhook Wireless -- the innovative geolocation clearinghouse whose database is used by the iPhone, among others -- may have let the cat out of the bag on Sony Ericsson's next WinMo set. Of course, it's no big secret that SE would be looking to follow on the XPERIA X1 at some point, but details have been virtually nonexistent; here, Skyhook's Ted Morgan mentions that his company lost out on a contract to power the WinMo-based X2's location-based platform to Google because... well, Google's free. That's as good of a confirmation as any that we've heard -- now, we just need an official announcement and some pretty pictures.[Via wmpoweruser.com]

X2 annouced April 2009
X2 Released March 2010 ?????
Also what do you guys think about the Sony Idou with the Symbian platform, will that have any luck in this market?
I think its a great phone and they can be successful with it but they'll price it out of existence.
SE seems like on of those companies on hard times that really brought it on themselves. Look at the X1. Took forever from announcement to launch (like you hinted at) and once it came out it was a hard and expensive phone to get.
Errrg.
X2?
I was already saving up for the X1.
Question is... Will the X2 Be Worth it?
:[
No. The question is: "Will you be able to afford it this time?"
Eh, MobileCity Has it for like 645 (tax included) . However.. buying it directly from SE is like throwing 100$ away when you could be getting a better deal there.
But if the X1 is that much, I'll expect the X2 to be round 700 while the X1 would get a price drop.
Lets hope a carrier picks this one up, and offers a deal.
They need to fix the slowdown issues with the interface (which I think is less to do with software and more to do with hardware on the X1 still being a generation or two away in processing power from what is needed to fluidly run an interface like that with speed).
If the X2 is the same form factor (touchsceen/horizontal slide-out keyboard combo), and it's fast (basically meaning no lag), I'll buy into the awesomeness of a product that finally just works and doesn't seem to glitch every time I want to switch screens.
Not ragging on the X1 specifically for the slowdown issues, it seems to me that all modern smartphones suffer from the same lag.
I would like to add that the X1 is ok. If it were not for its continual lockups (windows) and for some reason you cannot use the head set microphone! I have gone thru 2 of the X1's. Both same problems i hope that Win6.5 fixes them but we will see. Personally i have always loved sony's phones but this one has actually brought the bar down a bit in my opinion. Nothing really inovative. I am actually waiting to get my hands on the Nokia N97 or the Samsung Ominia HD which i have enjoyed both of the OS's that they run way more than Win. Not to dog on windows cause i make my living off of administrating windows OS's but these phones just don't have the punch to run WinOS. I would personally like to of Seen BeeOS on a phone!
Just my 1.33 cents.
