Verizon asks for more time to spin off divested chunks of Alltel
In order to get the FCC to agree to Verizon's massive acquisition of Alltel -- the US' 5th-largest carrier -- it had to agree to some pretty serious concessions, including divestitures in a whole slew of markets to ensure that the competitive spirit remained intact. The "transaction" (as Verizon calls it) closed on January 9, and the resulting mega-carrier was given until May 9 -- a week from Saturday -- to finish spinning off the required markets. Well, as we all know, companies this large aren't known for their agility, and sure enough, Verizon is asking for just a little more time to dot its i's and cross its t's. A "Request for Extension of Management Period" has been filed with the FCC on behalf of the companies asking for another 60 days, which means the divested markets would be up and running outside of Verizon's control by July 8 of this year. Verizon blames "the sheer size and complexity of the divestitures coupled with the current economic conditions" for the request, but seriously, can't they just throw this all up on eBay for, say, a 5- or 7-day auction and be done with it? No? [Warning: PDF link]

So will All-tel remain as a wireless provider or are they divesting their remining interests into other carriers?
Divesting into other carriers
.
For instance here in VT, they swapped some territories with AT&T which allowed AT&T to take over the existing Alltell/Unicell network. Thank GOD! AT&T is actually investing in more towers here an upgrading them all to 3G and prepping them for 4G while Verizon had given up. I am very happy some real competition came in and that we are no longer the only state without the iPhone.
Verizon smart phones and phone choices in general are just pathetic.
AT&T will not be adding 3G in you whole State. Verizon already has 3G through most of the state. And Verizon will have 4G before AT&T will there. And iPhone is comming to Verizon. And there are many states who cant have iPhone because no AT&T coverage. AT&T is the worse network in the US.
Verizon will not have the iphone, its not coming with its crappy CDMA, possibly with LTE, but after AT&T's contract runs out, or extension which will happen
Like you have any idea what goes on at Verizon. I do, why? Because I work for them. And YES it is comming to them. Apple can make a new phone if they want and call it something els. Verizon is already doing better then AT&T without iPhone. This will bring everyone back to Verizon who left, which most miss our network which IS the best in the US.
I beg to differ. You sound like you've had a bit too much of the corporate Kool-Aid. I'll never go back until they have decent phones and better coverage. Not to mention prices- I get unlimited free incoming when roaming in with Chinese service. Can't you provide that for your own customers?
@VZW
If your posts on BGR were not annoying enough, now you are trolling on another site.
3G is in the beginning stages in Vermont with AT&T. It would be weird that they would have the entire state covered, since they just got the territory. With Alltel and VZ being in the area for years and being the ones who sold off the area, one would think that they would have it covered.
Just a bit of logic, not some blind, weird carrier rage that you display.
And since the Verizon is the very, very bestest, greatest, most fantabolus carrier on the planet...no universe, why would you even want the iPhone? It's not like anyone is switching from the best in the universe to get the device. Also don't believe all the rumors you hear, it's not going to come until after 2010. That's what the contract is for. It's like the rumor that iPhone was giving to Verizon first. That was just a leak to the media to help in negations with AT&T and boost Apple stock. That was disproved over the past few months with people caught in the media's reporting on the current financial crisis.
I could care less about AT&T ( horrible service & coverage, I sold my iPhone 3G months ago ) or Verizon ( way overpriced ) as I use Virgin Mobile ( TOTALLY unlimited calling for only $49.99 per month and great crystal clear service ).
I think all this Apple & Verizon talk is like what they do in sports, to push the price up. I am sure AT&T knows Apple is talking to Verizon and AT&T will top whatever offer Verizon gives Apple.
To me, the iPhone is not going anywhere. The iPhone is not for everyone.
Also I don't think anyone knows what is going on at AT&T or Verizon unless you are on the board of directors for both companies. Rumors on around water cooler or coffee machine don't count as knowing FOR SURE what's happening.
BTW, in my area, all 4 carriers have good coverage, along with 3G coverage as well.
Will it or will be not but everything will be organised in such a way, as to get the highest profits. I was reading your discussion and one of Discovery TV-shows came to my memory. I found one at torrents files search engine

It was about the work of phone communication companies. In what way their work is organised and what company is responsible for what. In your case maybe these companies deal with different things, too.
