Cincinnati Bell lands Nokia's XpressMusic 5800: $149.99
Good one, Cincinnati Bell -- you totally got us. Oh, wait. This isn't a joke? For the second time in as many months, the aforesaid carrier has somehow managed to land a white-hot Nokia handset before any other operator in America. This go 'round, the company is becoming the first in the US to offer a subsidized version of Nokia's polarizing XpressMusic 5800, bringing it to customers in the Ohio region for $149.99. Those looking to do without any strings can procure one for $349.99 (which is still $50 less than what Nokia's asking), but it's the bragging rights here that make it all worthwhile. So, how long before a real carrier follows suit?
Update: And here's the press release.

Ouch @ "So, how long before the real carriers follow suit?" Too bad Cincinnati isn't a national carrier. At the very least, this means that Nokia is having some success(albeit limited success) penetrating the US market with their smartphone offerings.
Hehe, you said 'penetrating'!
@ILoveApple:
Hehe, your comments always get Low Ranked!
Actually engadget, cincinnati bell doesn't have a contract... you don't sign a contract but I think to get the MIR you need to keep service for at least 3 months, also the Cincinnati bell has the curve 8900, and the pearl flip, at one time they also offered the n96, n95 and e71... all subsidized... there stepping up there game here in cincinnati, and they also use same 3g bands and as tmobile and tmo has yet to add 3g here, so I know people who have taken there 3g tmobile phones and unlocked to work on cinbell 3g bands... ha crazy that cinbell beats att to the punch on the 8900 and the e71... I am thinking they have a contract with nokia and I'm almost betting that cin bell will be the only US carrier to subsidize the n97...
1. @justin: Cincinnati Bell did not offer the N96. They did have the N95, however as well as the 6210 Navigator.
2. And the only reason that Cincinnati Bell has this phone, is because, as Justin earlier stated, have a contract with Nokia. Yes I was thinking about getting Cin Bell because of this phone, but the service overall is horrible. I'll stick to T-Mo and my new Curve 8900. :D
Are their phones locked to cincinnati bell? or could i sign 4 3 months and then take it to ATT?
generally cincinnati bell smart phones are not tied to a carrier and are basically unlocked... At least thats the way it used to be...
i love nokia
cincinnati bell freakin rocks for this
It's $99 for 2yrs contract until the end of May, but their Montly plan is quite expensive (I'm looking for a family plan), plus no retailer store in Texas area... now make me think twice!
Umm...have you been paying attention? Cincinnati Bell is only available in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. In addition Cincinnati Bell DOES NOT REQUIRE CUSTOMERS TO SIGN A CONTRACT. There are options to sign a contract on select handsets in order to receive a bigger discount, however, many of CinBell's customers do not mind paying a little extra for a handset in order to forgo being licked into a contract.
What on earth made you think this was available in TEXAS? And that a contract was mandatory? Can you even read English?
I'm willing to bet that this happened because Nokia had the upper hand in the arrangements here seeing how Cinci Bell is a small carrier that is looking to expand its business and what better way to do that than by offering some models from Nokia which you don't see very often in the U.S. Nokia probably told them what they wanted, and Cinci Bell agreed. Good for Nokia and this is really great for anybody on Cinci Bell. I'm totally jealous.
Mr Tim,
Did I say "Mandatory contract" or you just assumed? I did walk through their website by chose the Nokia 5800 and add it to the cart, on the top of "Contract" selection, they will ask for " No contract, 1, 2 or 3yrs". I selected 2yrs that's how it cost the Nokia 5800 for $99.
Did I say "This should be available in TEXAS?" I knew this is not available in Texas, I just "hope" this retailer will be available in Texas for "Customer Service" purpose, NOT for "ordering" purpose.
Humm.... Are you an American with a broken English?
