Android 1.5 coming to T-Mobile UK now, USA next week
And so it's finally confirmed: no consumers on un-hacked T-Mobile G1s in the US have this yet, but Android 1.5 and all its gooey, chocolatey Cupcake goodness will finally be hitting American units come late next week. Of course, you know how Android updates go -- they "roll" -- and not everyone is expected to get hooked up until the end of the month. Meanwhile, British G1 owners are getting updated as we speak -- so you might say they're getting back their American counterparts for launching the hardware afterwards. You know, what goes around, comes around.[Thanks, Shawn and David]
Update: The 1.5 update includes Picasa and YouTube uploads (you didn't forget about video capability, did you?) straight from your device, which is pretty cool.

About damn time.
Yes!
If they knew they’d be releasing 1.5 in may, why did they hold off in telling USA subscribers instead of telling them right away like they did in Germany.
They just like to see us Sweat and get all heated I guess!
Ahahahhaaa
Bring it!
Looking Forward to the Improved camera response time/Quality and Video recording directly to YouTube!!!
WaHOoey!!!
Hopefully this also means T-Mo USA is ready to launch the HTC Magic (or G2, or MyTouch 3G, whatever) sometime really soon.
cannot wait for this.... means i can finally ditch the not that good sms apps that I have to use to h ave a virtual keyboard now
Too bad it still doesn't have voice calling from a bluetooth headset, which is about the only feature I actually want them to add.
I thought that Android updates would come from Google and not T Mobile? But anyway if I have AT&T what does that mean to me? I thought that the phone itself checks for updates, but does it check with AT&T or Google?
anyone running an unlocked G1 on AT&T? what is it like? have you lost any functionality because it is unlocked?
Thanks
Nope, no loss of functionality from unlocking it seems. However, the native messaging app doesnt work on AT&T and neither does 3G sadly. To replace the messaging app I would recommend meebo. As for the loss of 3G..
Well guess you'd need a BB Bold, Nokia E71, or iPhone for that. All of which are respectable phones of course, but for me, I just wanted to be a part of Android since I'm a Google fan rather than an Apple one.. not to mention I needed the keyboard =]
I'm just wondering if the new soft keyboard will be good enough to replace my need for the hard one.. in which case.. this phone will be fat for no good reason.
I'm not believinG this at aLl. There hAve been a DOzen of theSe dates set in the past. I'm sticking with what others have said:
The cupcake is a lie.
None of the previous dates have come with an official TMo announcement.
Germany gets 1.5 OTA as well.
@Adam
Cupcake is very real as a matter of FACT i have 1.5 already on my rooted phone (JFv1.5) and i also have my apps on my SDcard with 74MB of free internal space.I think root is better though so i'll be sticking to it.
For those who have a rooted G1 and wanna get the apps2SD then go to my official XDA Blog post and follow my instruction. It takes 5 minutes an is only 3 steps.

I have a T-Mobile USA G1 but I'm in the U.K. right now. I've removed the SIM card and switched to my home wifi. Is there any way I can get the update??
Calendar app now crashes constantly after 1.5 update.
