California girl claims to have burned through over 300,000 texts in a single month
A 217,000-message record attempt nearly cost one dude $26 grand, which probably would've really bummed him out had he realized that the record attempt was going to be shattered -- seemingly -- just a few weeks later. A California teenager by the name of Crystal Wiski has apparently sent and received a mind-numbing 303,398 texts in a single month on an iPhone, and the most amazing thing about it is that she doesn't seem to have been gunning for a record on purpose. Her reason? "I am popular, I can't help it." It's not totally clear to us how 300,000-plus texts is biologically or technologically possible for a human / iPhone combination, especially without sending meaningless, one-letter texts to random contacts -- but then again, teenagers do strange, amazing things. Live the dream, Crystal.[Via CNET]

Damn.. thats 10K+ messages a day... 422 messages an hour... and about 7 messages a minute.
Not to be mean, but she doesn't look very popular
In the original post it says she holds a 40hr wk job & gets straight A's...uh right
FAKE.
Okay, that's like...one every ten seconds 24 hours a day for a month. I find that really hard to believe.
sorry...i'm gonna have to call this girl an idiot liar..cuz she's lying, and she's dumb. "i can't help it i'm popular" horseshit. no way in hell any high school kid could have pull this off. from what i've read via the link, and a lil google search, she's a high school student, about to graduate, holding down a 40 hr a week job...and getting decent grades. Find me ONE job that any high school kid (other than being paid to sleep working for their parents) could work where they'd be allowed to constantly be on their phone. i say the girl has to sleep @ least 6 hours a nite...so sending an avg of 555 per hour while she's in HIGH SCHOOL (show me a teacher that would allow that, and i'll show you a teacher that would get fired) or while working is BS. this girl was probably sending messages to herself over and over again, cuz yes...u can sms yourself. little cheat
we have to figure this is incoming and outgoing messages. Her friends gave a big assist here. Still this is an insane amount of messages. How popular can you be when you spend every waking second txt msg'ing. More like a textaholic! Get help, interact with people and less with your phone.
Assuming she is awake for 18 hours a day, that is one message every 6.41 seconds! That is just ridiculous!
Is texting ALL she does?
She most likely had some reply all thing going with 100 people.
That's exactly what I was thinking...
Seriously. These insane texting stories are almost as tired as readers (and writers evidently) of a *tech* blog who don't realize that sending one text to twenty people is regarded as twenty texts sent by your provider. Add to that messages sent over IM protocols, and it's more believable. i'm sure she sent a ton of pointless text blasts to get up to that number. Aside for the purposes of hyperbole, trying to figure out how she made those texts within a month is pointless.
Also, the girl pictured in the CNET article is not Crystal Wiski. She's pictured in the article at http://www.ksbw.com/news/19373165/detail.html.
Lastly, "Crystal Wiski". That's the real tragedy here, folks. i'll keep the jokes of exotic dancing, meth use, and trailer livin' to myself and just congratulate her on maintaining her grades and job.
"...exotic dancing, meth use, and trailer livin'..."
that's what i came to comment on!
Iphones don't have the reply- all feature.
this record txting stuff is so stupid. Just set yourself up with facebook SMS alerts for every little thing that happens, and any other SMS alerting you can think of, then show people your bill at the end of the month. Instant profiting on txting fame!
I imagine she must be doing fantastic in school
Well, the article does address that:
"You might also be saying to yourself that Crystal must be a woeful student who is an awful drag on her mother's patience, time, sanity, and hairdresser.
Well, you might just need a crystal of whiskey or two when I tell you that she gets straight As, is about to graduate, and holds down a 40-hour-a-week job. (No, not at an Apple store. At McDonalds.)"
I hold to the theory that she has a clone that does nothing but text all day while she does the normal stuff.
she says "I am popular, I cant help it"; yeah come on so popular that you have absolutely no social life cause your head would have to be buried in your phone all day everyday, to do that many texts. I dont get kids these days im only 23 so i guess i am part of the whole tech generation, but i cant understand how people spend hours and hours on myspace, face book, and texting. i actually enjoy personal face to face interations.
I'm calling BS. I own an iPhone, and I know that when I check my bill
online, my internet and texting combine. I saw 42,000 text messages
one time and I know I didn't send that many, then I realized the
internet KB was mixed with my text messages. MySpace + Facebook + Twitter + a lot of texting = her 300,000.
I can't stand texting for very long. I think the longest I've been involved in a text conversation was like 20-30 minutes...it's like seriously, either call the person just see them.
I have absolutely no respect for these text records--it just screams that you have no life.
I wonder how many of those texts were actually opened. I would be willing to bet that she just told everyone in her whole school to text the crap out of her phone. There's no way that many texts can be fit around school, work, taking a shower, and walking. There's no way to read and reply to that many texts. I think anyone who legitimately does over 5,000 is seriously cutting into their life with texting. A guy in my high school literally texted all throughout class, went home and texted tons at home got about 10k texts and hardly did anything else.
Ah, idiotic kids these days. I raise my beer to your quick demise Gen-Y
Is it 303,000 text messages, total from both incoming and outgoing?
How many of them were sent to multiple recipients?
Before I even start to care about records I want to know the answers to those 2 questions. Otherwise meh. Anyone can send text messages to their entire phonebook and get multiple replies to each of them
She's so popular she's rocking the original non-3g iPhone.
Who cares how/if she accomplished it? Let's all look down our collective noses at someone who would do something so absurd as sending 300k+ texts. As opposed to say, commenting in a blog post that links to an article about someone sending 300k+ texts.
Oops.
I'd rather fuck a horse.
Since the iPhone allows her to text and no MMS, I'm sure she had to find an outlet.
Crystal Wiski has apparently SENT AND RECEIVED a mind-numbing 303,398 texts in a single month
so i thin
Her stupidity is matchd only by her ugliness
And in related news.. man sets new record talking on his iphone 28 hours a day for an entire month..
This is complete B.S. No way.
Look, I could break that record if I wanted to, and this is probably how people are doing it:
Log into your carriers site (I will use TMOBILE for an example) and go to the section where you can get text alerts...and sign up for EVERYTHING.
Sign up for every sporting event, and have it text you after every inning, the end of every game, the end of ever quarter, etc.
Then sign up for breaking news alert and news update possible.
Then head over to google, cnn, fox news, etc and sign up for their text alerts.
Then find some local TV News stations and sign up for their text alerts as well.
$500.00 says that I can break 500,000 a month...Should I attempt it?
Only if you want your service cancelled by your carrier
This really isn't that hard to believe. I am fifteen, and I send about 15,000/month and I don't text as much as a lot of my friends (although I text more than most). I have had a few friends claiming to have broken 100,000...not sure I believed them...but with an attractive popular teenager, 300,000 is definitely possible sometime, if not this time.
I don't think most of the skeptics are realizing that recieved texts also go toward your monthly total. So realistically, she only had to be sending one or two texts a minute.
