Samsung's a177 is a prepaid texter for AT&T

As you may have gathered from the ultra-low model number, the Samsung a177's coming in as a bargain-basement GoPhone device -- but seeing how carriers are trying to attack every single market segment with messaging capabilities, they've still managed to pack in a full QWERTY keyboard. Conveniently, the device's FCC filing just came off confidentiality, so we have access to all the goods; we know that it'll be EDGE-only, have a camera (likely VGA if we had to guess), and a patterned back, because let's be honest -- a phone is never too cheap to be stylish. We imagine we'll see this one in stores very shortly.

yea i work for radioshack this phone is coming to us for 79.99 prolly a rebate eventually of 10 or 15 bucks. were also getting the nokia 2680 slider and the samsung a167 for $99 and 49 respectively

I can't care less about this phone but I'm digging the new prepaid plan, as long as you are charged only in the days you use the phone.

We just got our dummy of this phone in yesterday, pretty nice size and keyboard, Looks like it should be on shelves before we know it

Really, someone likes the $3/day plan??! I am not a power user on my phone, but I'm pretty certain I use it at least once a day. That's $90/month just for voice. I currently pay $80 with more than enough minutes, unlimited web and 200 texts. I can't see paying an extra $10 to get less out of my phone. I also can't see telling any friends or customers that I only take calls once a week.

I asked about their 3$/day talk plan

Its for voice calling only.

Its an extra 10-20 or so for texts [depending how much you want]
Then an extra 20 for web

Its not much of a bargain at all really...

It will charge you 3$ even if you don't call, If you are texting or web browsing every day, it will charge you, EVERY DAY.
