We've obtained pictures of a device that we're told is the
"Onyx," a 3G-enabled GSM BlackBerry that looks like a slightly sexier, smaller version of the Bold with some
Niagara /
Tour genes thrown in for good measure. We'd previously heard that this phone is ultimately destined for AT&T (while a UMA-enabled version might come to T-Mobile as the Driftwood), which definitely takes the edge off of the impending
8900 launch over there -- but then again, this is a prototype, and it'll be many moons (at best) before this thing gets launched. Every time we look at the
Bold, it looks more out of proportion -- and sexy beasts like this one certainly aren't helping matters. Keep on keepin' on, RIM.
I like the overall desing of it, but the first row of the keyboard seems too curved for me.
And, in the top-right corner of the screen it says EDGE, does that mean it's EDGE only or RIM might just be in a non-3G zone (which would'nt make much sense, since they are TESTING phones, and the do have 3G phones, don't they?)
the first picture looks like the 9630, not the onyx. Look at the crome-like sides of the phone in the first pic compared to the other front shot of the Onyx. Different. Also not the little 'side bars' next to the screen on the onyx that isn't there in the first picture of the 9630. Note that the first pic with the about screen doesnt give the number of the blackberry.
Yep, that was my bad - accidentally posted the wrong picture. The gallery should be updating soon (hopefully).
Also in the first picture with the about screen it says 3G CDMA, while the onyx is supposed to be GSM
Damn this thing is hot!
Let's hope it's a smaller Bold replacement for ATT! Must has 3G, wifi, GPS... all the good stuff.
When? I think November?
