Sony Ericsson Kokura spotted, but is it different from the Idou?
The same poorly-lit source offering up the first picture of a Verizon-branded HTC Touch Pro2 has come to the table with a device claimed to be the Sony Ericsson "Kokura," which looks suspiciously like the Idou (we've blown the contrast and brightness on the image to try to get some better definition out of Mr. Blurrycam's fine work). Indeed, the specs are a dead ringer for the Idou's, too, with a 12.1 megapixel camera and S60 5th Edition both said to be in the mix. Granted, Sony Ericsson wants to launch the Idou with the Symbian Foundation's R1 release, but the difference between R1 and S60 5th Edition should be little more than the difference in an old-school S60 Feature Pack, so we're not too worried about it. Question is, is this really just the Idou by a different name? If so, should the fact that there are units in the wild give us hope that a launch isn't too far off? And if not, why is the company making multiple identical devices with similar specs?

Lookin goooooooooooood
sounds like a code-name for Idou.....
Didn't they say that the Idou wasn't the final name when they announced it?
I'd be really surprised if its a different device. Looking forward to it. Hope it gets released soon and on a carrier.
when is this phone going 2 be released?
BGR says this might be the CDMA version for Verizon.
I just saw that too. Makes sense with their logic. The three phones other phones at the site were all CDMA VZW phones so it is logical that its the same person getting the pictures through their job as a tester or something similar.
I'm really interested in hearing more about that. I'd just assumed that I would have to switch carriers for this phone (if it even ended up on a carrier) if I don't I'll be thrilled.
This seems like win win (though SE is probably coming out ahead).
yea but sony ericsson rarely makes cdma's now a days so I really wouldnt think that this is going to be Verizon
Right, which is why its pretty big news if it holds true.
It makes sense in a lot of ways.
SE USA is dying a not too slow but still very painful death. You're right, they don't make CDMA phones and the GSM phones they do make aren't super desirable here. Part of it has to do with the fact that even the GSM phones that are desirable don't make it to a carrier and the US relies pretty heavily on carrier subsidies for phone sales. So if SE USA wants to survive they've got to change something. Its certainly possible that one thing they're going to try is to get the brand out there a bit more and with the largest carrier in the US being CDMA part of that strategy could be to start making select phones available in a CDMA flavor. Makes sense that they would do this for their newest flagship phone. If I were SE and I knew that I was going to have to start playing the carrier game I'd certainly be shopping it all around. VZW, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, anyone thats going to start helping me sell handsets and make my company a real player in the US market. Swapping out a radio is the least of their concerns I think. Thats all just my thoughts on the matter. There could be limitations that I don't know about.
Also if its not CDMA its defiantly an "one of these things is not like the others" situation. Why would the guy have three VZW/Altel phones and then one unreleased GSM phone? It makes sense that all of them were procured through whatever the guy does for a living and whatever it is it would seem odd to have a mismatch of unreleased phones like that. Make much more sense that all of them are VZW phones.
codename spelling is wrong.
picture seems to match recent shell of prototype Idou.
Turning it over would have been nice as number of megapixels should be written on the back and different versions of the hardware have different camera.
