AT&T expects to sell Palm Pre when Sprint's exclusivity ends
We've heard in the past that the Palm Pre would be available at other carriers "next year" sometime after Sprint's exclusivity period is up, and now we have a vague verbal confirmation from AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson that he "sees" AT&T grabbing hold of the Pre once it's available. The remarks were made today at the D7 conference. If this pans out, it fits with rumblings we've heard of the Eos being AT&T's low-end, Centro-style webOS device, with the Pre snapping up the higher end.

Yea, but it's on at&t. Overpriced plans and shoddy 3G? Not so much.
Can Engadget start swinging the ban hammer on these iTrolls?
They are now just spamming above their usual obnoxiousness. It is really just beyond time to thin out a few of them seeing that they all just repeat the same garbage.
The issue isn't Sprint's pricing vs AT&T's pricing per se. If you are on a family plan with someone who has an iPhone, you can't get that on Sprint. Being on a family plan is a big deal, and AT&T has much larger market share. AT&T may be more expensive, but the price is lower when you count all the family members sharing minutes rather than multiple individual plans. If the Pre was available on a really cheap plan, maybe that wouldn't be the cas,e but it's not.
As for Sprint TV, TeleNav, etc..., I don't really care. I'd rather have a cheaper plan that didn't have all the addons which I don't use. I certainly don't want to have to pay for services I don't use.
This is good for Palm, and good for AT&T, and bad for Sprint, but who cares about Sprint? I want a Pre, and if it's on AT&T it's lot easier and cheaper as my wife has an iPhone.
Are all of these blogs operated by the same person? They run with the same crap. Ever hear of "fact checking?" This rumor is pure BULL-SHIT, AT&T is NOT getting the Pre, this is FUD.
Not quite sure I follow you Mike. According to Sprint's site, there are three different tiers of Everything plans for families - one with unlimited minutes, one with 3000 minutes, and one with 1500 minutes. You are not forced onto an individual plan if you pick up a Pre, or any other smartphone for that matter.
ITS A TRICK! Don't believe him.
It's just an attempt to get people to hold onto their iPhones for another year.
What? how can you put this picture up again?
stuff on it is not true anymore.
How can they say that the controls aren't intuitive? Isn't that kind of a matter of opinion?
And Sprint's exclusive ends in January, so expect AT&T to have teh GSM version at that point in time. Great for Palm, bad for Sprint.
Most reviews when it comes out would be on a sprint plan. $69 450min umlitd text data. Come on man good deal. If it goes to ATT you will charged for every single thing you do. Shop around man. Sprint has gotten their Sh&*&! together now. Called customer service they are nice now and guess what a manager called me back in less then 24 hours and apologized for not calling sooner.
How is it bad for Sprint when they are NOT a GSM network???
@seven2k, you've seen the commercials, some people just like throwing away money, putting money in a wood chipper, pouring it down the drain...you get the idea.
Do you guys really think APPLE is going o let ATT carry the Pre? If you were a business owner who had an extended exclusive contract with a company, would you allow them to carry a competitor? If ATT tried to carry the Palm Pre, I think APPLE would have them in court so fast!
APPLE doesn't have a CHOICE what the CELLPHONE company SELLS.
So it's OK for them to knock it till they offer it?
All the things about the touch screen are off. They are both multi touch.. and it's not like the pre's interfaces isn't intuitive..
of course they are, this was a document about how the iPhone is supposedly not shit compared to the pre
LOL...typical phone company document, out of date. Should get some worked up.
Phoenix, guess you've never used an iphone then, chump? You've never used a Pre either, but you're still quite the expert.
1 thing the Pre does better than the iphone? Can't name one? Goodnight, kid
@red
But some of those things are outright lies. Care to counter?
1) You obviously haven't used a reply button before
2) You can't go "No? You can't say anything?" without giving them a chance to actually SAY SOMETHING.
3) I have used an iPhone. I don't like it.
4) Multitasking. Typing (i prefer a hardware keyboard). Notifications. Bluetooth. Unrestricted access to your own phone, and unrestricted choice of applications. Sure, the iPhone does some things better. but the restrictions and missing features are still way to major for a lot of people to live without.
That chart is pure BISHOP, your honor, BISHOP, I tell you.
listen everyone VODAFONE will have the PRE around SEPT. unlocked tri band 3g no need to wait fro AT&T to pick this one up just purchase the unlocked version
What about one for the iPhone side: AT&T's network always upgraded one to two years after iPhone with new technologies is released for other countries. AT&T's network always being brough to its knees by public events, even ones AT&T sponsors, and AT&T doesn't care. AT&T's network is on its knees in metropolitan areas already. AT&T's network drops calls quicker than a pimp drops an ugly ho.
Why would a pimp pick up a ho if he knew she was ugly?
Fo sho, my bro.
@Bryan
cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Which 205 countries, exactly? Over 205?
You got that wrong, it's actually OVER NINE THOUSAAAAND!!
taken from the internet:
There are 195 countries. An office, in its entire entity, is NOT a country. Sorry ATT.

I like how drag and drop is listed like it's a negative point. I'd take drag and drop over iTunes any day on my iPhone.
And I'd take *EITHER* of them over ActiveStink.
exactly. itunes is not a pro.
it's a con. big time.
worst piece of software I've ever used. bloated and slow.
Not bloated and slow on the Mac
But yes, I'd take drag and drop as well (just because not everything of mine lives in iTunes)
Really? iTunes sucks? Come on! It's the best music distribution model and service on the market! It pratically saved digital music by itself. Being able to sync through iTunes is a major selling point. I used to have a Treo and absolutely hated managing my data, music, etc...through Palm's activesync. The Pre is going to be a decent phone. It should be since they had over a year to copy Apple and try to implement and target some of the things the original iPhones couldn't do or didn't do well. The thing is, once the new iPhone and software come out, the Pre will be sniffing exhaust fumes. The iPhone is a far superior multimedia device. To have a device, like the iPhone 3G, that is a good phone, great music player, great gaming and utility device, and terrific for watching movies on while traveling, is untouchable. Apple has once again set the standard for phones and will continue to show these sub-par companies what it is to be intuitive! For those of you who go to Sprint for the Pre, good luck with a border-line bankrupt company that is loosing money hand over fist and has admitted that without a huge success from Pre, they may be done! I don't love AT&T, but I also don't love any mobile service provider. However, AT&T is excellent in Charlotte and the Southeast, so I'll stick with them and wait on the new iPhone for the best all-around smartphone on the market!
@Dion-
iTunes is a bloated piece of turd. There are a lot more efficient ways to manage a music collection, if you aren't too stupid to figure it out.
@Dion-
Also, do you work for Apple? You sound like a salesman, and a bad one at that.
I agree with jonshipman, iTunes runs much better on OS X.
But for Windows users complaining about iTunes being bloated, why not do something about it? Either don't use iTunes in the first place, or don't install everything included in the iTunes installer. There are ways of slimming it down, like this: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=554
I'll never understand why Windows users complaining about iTunes like if it's the most bloated piece of software out there, yet they deal with the same shit when they buy a PC from a manufacturer. They should be experts at removing bloatware since their damn OS comes with it.
P.S. Down rank me all you want.
@Dion: iTunes is definately not a selling point. The fact that it's an iPod with a built-in phone is a selling point.
And gaming on iPhone, oh you make me laugh! iPhone games suck. If you want a real gaming device, get a DS or a PSP.
@ampMOD: Even when keeping the install slim and light, there is still significant performance loss. The program is optimized for Mac OSX. The program is sloppily ported over to Windows, just so Apple can sell iPods and iPhones to people who don't have Macs.
Using iTunes is a big negative not positive.
Ever heard of a thing called "choice"? Some people prefer iTunes, some prefer WMP. So when you think about that, it is a plus. If you don't like that, you aren't even looking at the iPhone.
Highly agree with this, iTunes blows. How many years and countless upon countless updates will it be around before they actually make it anywhere near good?
pat, I don't think you understand.... he's not talking about using some bloated, proprietary software. he's specifically talking about NOT having to use software. you're not too tech savvy if you don't know what just dragging and dropping files on a device is, amirite? so this isn't for you. you're gonna go ahead and install 100megs of bloatware and be happy as a pig in shit (that goes off talking crap about things that he doesn't understand). some of us just like to plug in a cable and drop the folders onto the device like it was a flash drive. that's what he was talking about. so, saying "If you don't like that, you aren't even looking at the iPhone." is 100% correct because the iphone *CAN'T* do that. apple needs you to NEED itunes.
personally, I don't like sprint much these days and I might be in the market for an iphone, which would permanently bind me to itunes (thankfully, I have a macbook pro and don't have to sully up my gaming rig). I hate that fact and I'll miss just dragging files to my phone (like on my blackberry), but just for apps and music I can tolerate it. however, understanding WHY people want to have drag & drop simplicity is easy.
thanks and have a good day.
DP your poor shut your face, Verizon & AT&T both charge $30+ for PDA's... so your not making a valid point
Att Unlimited voice - 99
Att Required Data Plan - 30
Att unlimited text - 20
Att TOTAL = 149
Equivalent Sprint plan = 99
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Att 450 Voice Min - 39
Att Required Data Plan - 30
Att Unlimited Text - 20
Att TOTAL = 119
Equivalent Sprint plan = 69
...Seems like a pretty valid point to me
^^^^^^
^^^^^^
Agrred Sprint has the better plan and it seems like they are BEGGING you to use their fast network. Pre with sling media on EVDO Rev. A. You must be out of your mind not to go with a Pre and Sprint.
@cocoviper
Math skills not what they used to be? 39+30+20= 89 not 119.
Still more then Sprint but not by as much. :)
@Bryan
Haha my mistake- good catch :-)
Guys, you're forgetting GPS and TV Plus from ATT.
GPS: $10
TV Basic: $30
And if you're talking about the 450 minutes, you also need to add the Early Nights and Weekends charge.
Early Nights and Weekends: $9
-------------------------------
ATT Unlimited equivalent = 189
Sprint Everything = 99
Difference of 99
ATT 450 equivalent = 138
Sprint Everything Data (without Rollover) = 69
Difference of 69 (Does twice as much justify Rollover? )
So both you'll be paying twice more in ATT than with Sprint.
What the AT&T CEO "said" gets changed/enhanced with every report I've read so far!
Lol!
Before ya know it, AT&T will be buying Palm!
Tomorrow!
