A tipster tells us that the device you're looking at here is Sony Ericsson's codename "Vulcan" -- better known as the
X2 -- which would presumably replace the
X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture's small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone's front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard, which adds a dose of credibility -- the company has, after all, put quite a bit of time and effort into pimping its panel interface SDK, and right now, the X1 is the only device that supports it. The image looks a little rough around the edges, but we can easily chalk that up to this being either a composite mockup or a very early prototype combined with the fact that our tipster seems to have blanked out the surroundings to protect the source. We're not saying it's definitely real, but this certainly looks plausible -- we're just not convinced yet that it looks better than the model it'd replace. Thoughts?
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Looks like a Winner to me !
- WinMo 6.5
- 3.5mm jack
- a good camera (it's Sony, so it should be way beyond HTC regarding this part)
- a full keyboard
- the xperia panel system (with more power under the hood to run it than the slow x1 ?)
- a better look than the X1 (i never liked the wierd triangle front keys of the x1)
- micro SD ?
This may fight the N97 in my heart, ouch !
As an X1 owner, I have to say that my X1 looks better than that. The only thing I see in that picture is a larger screen, which would be nice. Sony ericsson needs to improve the quickness of the interface on the X1 before I would even consider buying the X2. Also without many new panels being added, its hard for it to compete with the iphone's "apps". It will being interesting to see if this is actually the X2.
I should agree, X1 is way better looking, this thing above is just ugly,, however it may be a prototype... and it may look nice in white / silver..
Andriod that thing and I would buy it.
Is that a Psion 5MX keyboard on it?
Agreed. F this WinMo crap. Give me Android on this baby.
Looking at it, it looks like the screen is tilted!? It is a straight on shot, so it is hard to tell to what degree, but the angles are that of a tilted screen.
It's probably has an arc slider like XPERIA X1.
Certainly the X1 was downright sezzy, but lack of CDMA doomed most people in the States to never getting a whiff. And no, I'm not about to switch to a US GSM network, their coverage is crap in my area.
