It's no big secret that T-Mobile was going to get a version of the HTC Magic at some point, but this box art confirms a couple very important things for us. First, it's going to be called the
myTouch 3G -- not the
Magic,
Sapphire, or
G2 -- and the imagery conjured on the packaging is a good deal more exciting than that found on the
G1. Second, it'll be available in three colors, just like its older, QWERTY-equipped brother -- but unlike the G1, the wildcard third color will be a dark red marketed as "merlot." Of course, white and black will also be available, and we've got the proofs for all three in the gallery below, so have a look while you wait for launch; our documents here say that T-Mobile expects to bring this sucker into retail stores on August 5 -- but given the carrier's
"early summer" statement for its next Android device, we're cautiously optimistic that date has been pushed up.
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
looks freaking sexyy and amazing woww great summer all these new phones !!! Hahahaha
merlot isn't looking so bad, but the name sucks. why not just keep Magic?
it... has... too many... BUTTONS... ARGHH... ANDROID SMASH!!!
I own a G1, and that packaging feels like it's trying to insult me.
According to Cellphonesignal this device is coming out July the 9th:http://www.cellphonesignal.com/t-mobile-upcoming-phones-2009-review/
Actually the site you refer to is predicting a July 2009 release. When they say "July 09", the "09" does not signify the 9th of July, rather the year 2009. Such, it is a prediction, not a fact. This is said because if you look at the release dates for other devices, the one's with a for sure launch date are stated with month, day, and year.
Either way, this is going to be a fantastic device and I can not wait to get my hands on it.
This should be popular.
The UK version, Magic, was bought by a friend of mine as his first ever smartphone (After he rejected my suggestion of an iPhone as being too restrictive)
He absolutely fell in love with it. It's surprisingly nice to use and look at, and he loves the apps he has on it and keeps finding more and more and is very happy he didn't get an iPhone.
This will attract those people who thought that the G1 was a bit too bulky, and aren't bothered about a keyboard.
I'm glad to hear new news of this device. I was getting tired of hearing about the Pre that only the mother of a Sprint or Palm PT employee could love.
To me, the iPhone is played out and no way am I signing 2 years of my life away to another CDMA carier.
I'm looking forward to getting my hands on my first Android phone and this is the one. This thing looks hot.
I've been testing T-Mobile's prepaid service here to compare it to my current Verizon service and all I gotta say is that T-Mobile works great and the voice quality is superb.

In the 90's these boxes would have been called Xtreme! Possibly to the Max!
Wow I like it. I can't wait to see it up close!
I was hoping T-Mo would go for the HTC customized version of Android (with Smart Dialing, etc.), but since the box says "with Google" below the phone's (terrible) name, I think we can rule out that option. If I get this, I guess I'll have to flash it with HTC's build.
So since this isnt a "Google phone" Will it still require me to log in or create a Gmail account before i can use it?
I want ths phone so bad sadly i was robbed of my G1 so im looking foward to getting this phone late July. What did they say was inside i see T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, Charger with USB cable, microSD memory card, SIM card, Stereo Headset with Adaptor, Carrying Pouch, Screen Protector (which should have came with the G1), and something that I cannot read can someone help me to read it.
It just says "Video tips" as the last thing listed in the MyTouch box. :)
This is a google phone..will it come with the 3 megapixel camera..or the rumored 5 megapixel camera change
This sucks still no flash and now they got rid of the keyboard, wtf
