iPhone 3G S plans revealed on Rogers, O2
It'd take a really acutely developed talent for shutting oneself off from news to not know how much the iPhone 3G S is going to run on AT&T -- $199 and $299 for the 16GB and 32GB models on contract, just in case you've forgotten -- but what about some of the other countries that are destined to be launching the new model alongside the US on the same day? Up north, we've been told by a company spokesman that Apple partner Rogers will be pricing them at CAD $199 and $299 on three-year contracts, which works out to about $177 and $266; the old 3G, meanwhile, will be sold for (you guessed it) CAD $99. Tethering will be available and there will be no-contract pricing, but details haven't yet been announced there. Meanwhile, O2 over in the UK has dropped details on its site that put both the 3G S 16GB and 32GB as cheap as free if you sign up for a rich-enough two-year deal. Must be nice, eh?

34.26 Pounds is roughly $55 Dollars per month for 600 min, unlimited data, and 500 texts. With a 2 year contract, the 8 GB 3G is free and the 16gb 3GS is only $141 dollars. Damn overpriced AT&T!
I probably shouldn't point out that these prices are considered insanely expensive for the UK then. :)
Seriously though, O2's prices in general are completely wacky these days. The up-front prices that they're charging for all phones are terrible in comparison to the other carriers.
Also note that outside the US, incoming everything is free, so double those minutes for a fair comparison to the US carriers where you have to pay for incoming calls/texts
O2's prices? Cheap? HELL NO.
Me and a mate worked out that you could get the 32 GB iPhone 3G S on pay as you go, top up £10 a month for 18, and pay £10 a month for the the final 6 months for the unlimited internet, and it WOULD BE CHEAPER THAN GETTING IT ON THE CHEAPEST 18 MONTH CONTRACT.
NOT. CHEAP.
As much as I want the phone the 02 UK prices are completely over priced. Most phone users in the UK taking a 12 month contract for £35 per month can pretty much choose any phone they want for free or a small fee (£50 to £100) and still get unlimited texts, with a decent amount of talk minutes and internet access for no extra cost. To pay £35 per month plus £275 for the high end Iphone but only get 600 minutes and 500 texts AND have to commit to an 18 month contract is obscene. They also appear to be still selling the "pay as you go" (off line) 8GB 3G version for the same price they were selling it 12 months ago (£350). When does 02s exclusivity deal end ?
Hahah... you guys make me laugh over your bickering on what is not cheap. You really want "NOT CHEAP"? Have a look at Rogers (Canada).
- 3 Year Contract required (36 months!)
- Must Subscribe to separate voice & data plans
- Voice plans have a $400 early cancellation fee, data $100 more (no big loopholes like the US)
- Typical minimum voice/data is $25/$15 = $50 (typically couple hundred minutes & megs)
- But to get something (halfway!) decent, you're probably talking v/d $40/$30 = $70 (several hundred mins, features, gigs)
- BS System Access etc fees around $8-10/mo bring those to either $58 or $78
For 36 months we're talking over $3100, not including taxes! NOT CHEAP!!!
I know what you mean, I'm waiting for this monopoly of GSM operators to end... Frankly, Rogers can suck it, along with every other Canadian and American operator. They rape us with high fees for a shitty service.
"Best coverage in Canada" - No shit cause they're all shit.
I have to agree with our overseas friends, we have got it cheep over here in the UK. 2 year contact are BS, Infact 18 month contracts are not far off, given that any mobile phone i have had for the last 9 years dies after 12 months.
I was in the O2 store today trying to get on a pre order list for the iphone 3gs, But O2 in there wisdom have them on a first come first serve basis. Where as just over the road carphone warehouse said they will be starting there list tomorrow. So i know who will be getting my hard earned cash next week.
Is it 199$ on a 3 year min 45$ data AND voice plan for Rogers?
Your name shows your reaction perfectly.
Well Well Well
Here the actual price for up north (Rogers Canada)
Monthly plan include 350 min any time & 500 Mo, free after 9:00 PM to 8: Am cost 65.00$/month
Voice mail cost including call display, unlimited test message cost 20.00$ /month
Monthly system access fees 6.95$ / month
911 monthly charge 0.50$/ month
So that made: 92.45 $ a MONTH plus sales taxes (13%) = 12.01 FOR A NICE MONTHLY TOTAL OF 104.46
FOR A NICE TOTAL OF 104.46 $ / MONTH TO ENJOY THIS TOY IN THE CANADIAN SIDE
ALSO YOU HAVE TO SIGN FOR 3 YEARS CONTRACT SO THAT COST YOU 3,760.56 CDN $ (ALMOST 3,350.00 us $)
AH BY THE WAY ROGERS CHARGE ALSO ONE TIME FEES FOR ACTIVATION......35.00$
SO DO THE MATH
Wow. You really got rip off by the store or something.
I called and got my iPhone 3G for $199 last year WITHOUT activation $35.
I paid $60 included everything you mentioned and more. :)
I found it funny when people are getting high end phone but too cheap to pay their bills.
Why don't you go get a Samsung and go Pay As You Go? HA HA HA!
Am I missing something or is there something wrong with the 24 month plans?
The first and last column seem to be the same plan, and yet the first column says that the 32GB will cost £96.89 but the last column says free?!
Also, O2 have announced their tethering 'Bolt-On's'. the pricing is the same as they would charge for their 3G dongles i believe which seems completely unjust if you ask me as they already give unlimited data on the iPhone itself!
