Ouch, Android: HTC's France boss says they'll always have more "flagship" products on WinMo
In an interview with French site Mobinaute, HTC's chief exec for France and Benelux Frédéric Tassy opened up about his company's strategies for its two platforms -- Windows Mobile and Android -- and the takeaway is that WinMo fans have nothing to worry about in the short term. Citing the Touch HD as a prime example, Tassy says that HTC will "always [have] more flagship products on Windows Mobile," which doesn't really bode well for huge, Snapdragon-powered WVGA sets with Rosie installed -- unless they're eclipsed by WinMo 7 phones in the lineup with even better specs, we suppose. Other notable tidbits include a claim that HTC isn't working on any Android netbooks at the moment, and -- cover your ears, portrait QWERTY folks -- a mention that the company isn't sure there's a market for non-touch Android phones right now, despite the fact that a non-touch prototype was front and center during Android's PR tour early last year. We'll have to keep an eye on that one, because we're not convinced.[Via wmpoweruser.com]

i dont get the ouch comment. this is not surprising. windows mobile made them why would they jump ship unless wm7 was a complete and utter failure. it doesnt make sense to. plus android doesnt even look like its doing well.
i dont know if its google, tmobile or android. but every single friend i have in the u.s. that tries to email me pics from their stupid g1 phones it takes 2 days and 2 or 3 attempts before i finally get the emails.
i have a gmail accoutn my touch pro goes through instantly. its also synched on my curve 8330 also goes through right away.
I haven't used Android on a netbook, but I remain unimpressed by Android on phones. Google's offering was one of those things that sounded pretty good in theory, but when it came to execution, they dropped the ball. I'm looking forward to WM7. That will be a great evolution of a functional product and it is good to hear that development will remain behind it.
How is android dropping the ball according to you ?
By the way, here is an interview with Anand Chandrasekher from intel at computex 2009. He said there will be a variation of the future moorestown (x86) platform for windows mobile, but that the main power reduction talked about in the presentation beforehand this interview comes from an android based device. Look here @ 16:20

Yeah, the G1 sucked balls. I switched to a blackberry 8220 and my life is much better. I cannot wait for my Touch Pro 2 in August though
Android is still launching, wait and see Q4 2009 to have a better idea of its potential with a revamp or customized UI. HTC already has built a custom UI for android.
Android also deserves good hardware, may it be TI omap, snapdragon or better tegra !
I would love to see android based on a tegra mid / mobile phone !
With the 3d UI displayed at nvision 08 :>
C'mon HTC...

UPDATE: An overwhelming response from our French readers (you guys are awesome!) indicates the quotation was indeed translated improperly and should actually read close to, “Moreover, we will still have some flagship products on winmo”.
Android is still an up and coming mobile operating system. It has to earn its stars, I understand. It has a load of competition and only a couple phones using the operating system have been released thus far - I understand that as well. But most would agree that it has the potential to become a global powerhouse competing for one of the top spots in terms of market share. That is why these words from head of HTC France and HTC Benelux Frédéric Tassy, are so surprising:
HTC will “always [have] more flagship products on Windows Mobile,”
Indeed the boss only says they will continue to offer winmo on their high end. And saying android has a great future.
Overall a very positive interview for android !
The HTC announcement about closely alignment their flagship products with windows mobile should come as no surprise. If you simply look at their current and forecast it is sort of self explaining. Be clear about one thing... HTC is a smart business and they have very solid reasons for closely aligning with windows mobile and also putting their toe in the water with Android. Time well tell, but I think they are making some very smart business decisions.
