You'd think that Nokia would want to do a better job of building up such important product announcements with a long, drawn-out series of frustratingly unhelpful teasers, viral videos, and global PR campaigns, but instead, it turns out that the rumored
E72 and
5530 XpressMusic have been officially unveiled at the company's Connection 09 event in Singapore. The E72 is arguably the bigger announcement of the two, succeeding the E71 by adding a whopping 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack (thank goodness), integrated compass, 10.2Mbps HSDPA, and an optical navigation pad; it'll hit in the third quarter for €350 (about $489). Follow the break for video of the E72 in slick, polished, high-orchestrated marketing action. Next up, as we'd heard, the 5530 ends up being a small step down from the
5800 in the S60 5th Edition totem pole, offering just EDGE data without any form of 3G (though you've still got WiFi). It's got a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm jack, and a 640 x 360 touchscreen display. Like the E72 it'll be available in the third quarter; it'll retail for €199 (about $278) unlocked.
[Thanks, nabs]

The E72 still has the same slightly off QWERTY that the E71 has - the bottom row of letters should all be moved over one.
I don't really see the point of the 5530 : EDGE only ? Must be for the low end markets, and maybe we'll get a 3G+ version here. The price is cheap but what Nokia needs is high end touch devices to be more appealing !
The N97 looks good, but when you compare the screen to what Samsung or HTC offers, it hurts. They have to make a hotter version of it, more 2009 !!!
Yeaaaaa...no.
Not everyone is wants 3G in a phone. I don't. Why pay extra for the 5800 for features I don't want? I happen to think there will be others in my boat that will be grateful for this model; touch screen music player at an accessible price. You have to remember that Nokia isn't just making phones for tech fans.
yeaaaaa....yes..
i couldn't agree more...there r indeed alot i do mean 'alot' of non-3G subscribers on planet Earth and also some other planets far away like Uranus, Neptune and Kitaro....making phones is about making new market so making new money more money...pushing only high-end phones to the market just like selling only supercar only you and me can afford cause only we are so rich in Uranus though we migrated to Earth....Anyway, having the 5530 at lower spec lower price will help open up the market for SymbianOS S6 Version 5 for touch phone created by Nokia...it's all about business here.
transmission lost......duuu.....
It is much better in looks than 5800 and the kinetic scrolling feature is freaking awesome.
