Flash 10 for smartphone beta coming this October

It's been a while since we've heard a peep about Adobe's Flash 10 for smartphone initiative, but according to a slide from its Q2 Fiscal Year 2009 earnings presentation, the platform's on track for a beta release this October at the company's MAX conference. Prime mobile OS candidates for the beta include those from Adobe's Open Screen Project, which at last count included Nokia, Palm, Google, and Microsoft -- and unless there's been some behind closed doors meetings, the two glaring omissions on that list are still gonna be bugging you come this Halloween.

Even though BB together with iPhone was ommited for the Flash 10 beta, Im sure RIM will come up with something in order to support this.

They are probably gonna need more processing power for this, so Storm 2 could be compatable

It's only taken Apple two years to figure out picture messaging ... why would they want to rush to get Flash working on the iPhone.

little correction ... iPhone MMS won't work on AT&T (yes I blame Apple here since any other phone even imported can send MMS on AT&T) till the end of summer so it's 2 years and 2 months

Am I the only one not really excited about this? All that Flash stuff slows down my DESKTOP computer, why would I want it on my phone?

Good for streaming audio and maybe video, but other than that, I really don't have a use for it.

My local newspaper's site, for instance. It's loaded to the gills with flash crap all over the place and takes forever to load even on a fairly high end pc over a cable connection.

At long last; i slap to iphone; i really don't care to much to see flash in my phone but i could open the door for open source os to more types of better applications, since flash programming is popular. Other then that my youtube app on my android takes care of all my video watching needs.

I concur! Skyfire was the best thing my HTC Tilt running WM6.1 had to offer. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to keep me from converting to the iPhone 3GS. And the fact that a company offering the software FOR FREE has a more versatile browser than what Microsoft, a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, has bundled on their phones, boggles my mind.
I also couldn't deal with the sluggish manner of the WM OS anymore. It was so frustrating having an amazing phone with such a terrible OS. I was missing calls because my phone was too slow to register me hitting the answer button. I looked like I was playing Mortal Combat on my Genesis trying to get some combos moves when I would answer my phone...

The fact that 6.5 doesn't look much better doesn't surprise me, but what surprises me is that they've been developing mobile OS's for the better part of a decade and still have a sub-par product compared to what's out there. Blackberry, Android, Nokia, and Apple all have better OS's than MS's. And half of those are only in their second or third build.

I'll deal with not being able to listen to Myspace music pages over having a terrible product, one advertised as a phone and can barely accomplish that very task.

My question is, where is this money going? It's obviously not going into development...

lmao @ the people who dont think this is big.. you think youtube is all you need until you start streamin live laker games on the road with justin.tv, or watchin unrealesed movies on your tv with quicksilverscreen.com and a tv out cable, or catchin up with your favorite tv shows on hulu.com..

Who says those sites will serve video to a mobile phone? Take a look at the Hulu/Boxee issues.

I still do not believe they will be able to ship Flash 10 that plays audio/video smoothly and decent quality. Plus, I do not think the battery on most phones would last much longer than a television episode using Flash. I don't think most people understand how much they have to tighten up the desktop version to make it usable on a mobile platform.

android has a version on flash player on the leaked hero build it had a test version of flash player 9 so i knew this day was coming
