If you're ready, willing, and able to sign up for a new three-year agreement on Rogers, HTC's two inaugural Android sets just got a good deal cheaper for you.
Originally priced at $149.99 on contract, both phones are now down to $99.99 -- a stellar deal, we think, considering you're getting 7.2Mbps HSDPA, capacitive touch, 3.2 megapixel autofocus cameras with video capture, and HTC-customized Android ROMs. Maybe Rogers is discounting so quickly because they figure the phones aren't quite as appealing in light of the recent
Hero announcement -- or, more intriguingly, maybe they're prepping for an actual Hero launch of their own now that we know
there's an 850 / 1900 3G version in the mix.

That looks like a nice deal, but if I was considering getting an Android device, now that I heard about the HTC Hero, I don't think I could buy the Magic or Dream.
Rogers sold out of the iPhone. They probably have too many of these in stock.
wtfff I paid 149.99 for mine in early June. Any hope that I can get that credited back? I haven't even received the bill yet
Do they have 30 day trial periods on Rogers? If they do you may still have time to return it if you think it's worth the trouble. Maybe if you call and ask them they'll give you a credit since you haven't even received your first bill yet. I've heard of people getting credited when this happens with US carriers sometimes, but I don't know how it works in Canada.
It could work since Rogers basically will kneel down at times to keep customers.
It's not the price of the phone that's preventing me from buying one, its the price of the PLAN.
I'd gladly pay $200 for this phone if I didn't have to spend at least $70 a month for the most basic plan with data.
Yeah, Rogers really has a tough time grasping the concept of "value for money". This is a company that offers 5GB of data per month for $80. Compare that to pretty much any country in the world and tell me that's a good value. Fuck Rogers, and fuck Telus and Bell for being just as bad.
All three providers have voice & data plans for under $50.
No way would I sign up for a phone contract that's longer than my auto lease. Any phone they offer should be free if I'm to commit to a contract that lasts that long. I can't imagine how improved phones will be in 18 months, much less 3 yrs. I'd rather wait until some fool has to sell his because he can't afford the monthly cost & buy one used. That way if something comes along I like better I just sell mine & look again for another like new used phone. I've had an iPhone that I only paid $200 for that I used for 6 months, & sold it for what i paid for it, & then bought a Google G1 with tons of extra's that I paid $250 for. All without a contract on T-Mobile with unlimited minutes & internet for $60 & I'm not stuck with the same phone for 3 freaking years. Funny how in Europe you can get almost any phone for free, with just an 18 month contract, but in the USA & Canada people are all to willing to give up their hard earned cash so easily..
Everyone complains about Canadian carriers' three-year contracts without really understanding them.
Even though you sign up on a 3-year term, you get upgrades every 1 or 2 years (at the promotional prices, or sometimes even less). Yes you sign a new 3-year contract for that, but it also wipes out the last year of your original contract.
Essentially, as long as you stay with your provider and upgrade your phones, you're never actually on a contract for more than 2 years.
The original price for both handsets was $149, not $199. Even the BGR article you linked got that right.
Indeed. Thanks for the correction!
