HTC Hero vs. T-Mobile myTouch 3G... fight!
Two long lost siblings, at last reunited. But can there ever be unity? We don't think so. At every turn, the HTC Hero seems to trounce the myTouch 3G -- it's really hardly a contest. The myTouch is certainly lighter, and in many ways "feels" smaller because of it, but the size differences really are negligible. They're still both great phones, but the Hero really feels like a million bucks, while the myTouch feels a bit like a toy. Unfortunately, only one of them just went up for pre-order on T-Mobile, and it's not the one we want to marry.

America always gets screwed over in the mobile phone biz. I wanted an htc majic so bad till the Hero showed up. Not my errection is gone and no worthy android phone around to get it back.
lets just be honest, the HTC Hero wins hands down!
T-Mobile are idiots for NOT picking it up
I disagree. I think the Hero has personality. I liked the look of the G1 and the physical keyboard, but in landscape mode, the osk does the job, so I'm Hero-bound whether that means with T-Mobile, or changing over to AT&T. Not everything has to look like a bar of soap with a touchscreen and a camera.
And that reply was meant for the comment below. I Failed...
HTC Hero looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick.
An ugly stick, indeed.
You kidding? The Hero looks awesome!
Multiple personality disorder.
Drop the 0s and get a real device PALM PRE the big dog in town ;)
Hero is More Powerful and has alot of Pluses over the MyTOuch/Magic but I think the Magic looks and probably feels Better in the Hand.
How is the Hero more powerful?
Go to HTC's website, they have the same processors, RAM and ROM.
It has more angular edges and unrounded corners. Therefore it is more manly and powerful.
same cpu, more ram (never a bad thing) for hero:

Paul: I'm kind of curious if you and BGR are paid by AT&T to confuse the readers? What is the purpose of debating a phone that T-Mobile USA never intended to sell in the first place?
Why not debate the myTouch to the iPhone or the Tour? Why the Hero?
For the millions who don't read these boards and who are looking for an affordable, good looking and performing handset, the myTouch 3G is the way to go. No need to lose sleep over what never is going to be.
T-Mobile USA will (eventually) get the HTC Hero. It's simply a matter of when. A phone does not come out on T-Mobile UK and then not make it's way over the pond on the same network.
I know there are rumors of Sprint becoming the carrier, and while I think they are true, I pray they aren't (because Sprint has awful service and speeds in my area). It'll eventually be a T-Mobile phone. Just wait.
Danny: maybe because not every reader is stuck with T-Mobile?
The debate is relevant to millions of readers. I think Paul was just lamenting that T-Mobile have not picked up the Hero.
I came within minutes of buying a Magic last week, am now getting the Hero instead. So this was interesting for me.
confuse the readers? Who's confused? Here's a tip, worry about yourself.
Wow, that Hero has to be the stupidest/worst looking phone I have ever seen in the past year. Does HTC just assume we don't care how their phones look anymore; as long as they sit in your hand nicely its ok?
It looks very similar to the Dream, which I think looks great (I have one). The ergonomics are good.
It's just one of those things people either hate or love. I think the myTouch 3G looks dull and cheap.
You and I have very different perceptions of what appeals to us then haha. I thought the MyTouch was the better looking of the two. Oh well. That's why there's different brands out there.
With the hero just passing thru the FCC w/ATT bands, wouldn't common sense suggest it's going there??? Just sayin'
To blow off the myTouch would be a mistake. What's with the split edge on the Hero? That looks cheap and is not the way phones are trending. I carry my phone in my pocket and I'm thinking the myTouch looks like less of a nut jabber then the Hero.
PLEASE GOD don't let this go to AT&T! They've had the freakin iphone for a few models already and its all anyone talks about. Here i am stuck with Sprint and their shit phones (except the Pre, which i don't want). I got hoodwinked into getting the Instinct a year ago and I can't stand it.
Which carrier in the US or North America will get the hero? Also when is att US going to start selling their android phone?
Paul/Engadget: Aside from it's plasticky feel, would you say that it's primarily a firmware difference between the two? If so, seems like that could easily be remedied.
Wake me when they build these using a 3.5" screen so that the fonts don't require a magnifying glass to read your gmail, email & text messages. If they do stay with the 3.2" screen the OS should at least offer a larger font & zoom that's good throughout the entire system & all apps. Give Apple credit for at least realizing that not all users have the vision of a 20 yr. old & built their phone using a larger screen & font.
Hero FTW!
Now as nice as Sense is, Im having a real problem believing its that much better than the myTouch.
In fact Im down right confused as to one simple thing.... I keep hearing conflicting reports as to the actual RAM the myTouch has.
Some sites report it is 192, some report it as 288, some sites say there are 2 different models, some sites say the myTouch does have 288 but only 192 is accessible since they want to leave the rest for upgrades/updates.
If in fact it does have the 288 then the only difference between one and the other is the interface... well a simple ROM flash fixes that and then they are identical.
So.... does anyone really know how much ram the myTouch really has?
tmobile really is a scummy greedy c***sucking corporate entity for getting behind the mytouch. the hero is obviously better. it seems that time and time again this company (the US company) would rather profit than make their customers happy. well i hope someone from tmo reads this, and they realize "hey, we really are pieces of s***!" this really would have been the best phone tmobile usa would have ever had.
disregards,
f*** you

I take it you're not a current t-mo subscriber. If you were, as I am, then you would realize they have the best customer service by any carrier in the states. I cannot, however, express the same sentiment for other t-mo divisions as I have never experienced them. Regardless, anytime I have a problem, which is rare, they are very quick and helpful and seem to assume it's their fault at all times (humility goes a long way in Co. America). I personally rave about t-mo's service all the time to my co-workers and friends.
I agree that their device selection has not been the best in the world but I never find it wanting (except maybe the iPhone). So suffice it to say, while there may be some truth in your comments regarding device selection, your overall sentiments are misguided at best.
Js- I agree 100%. Tmobile has the Best customer service and rate plans, worst phones.
~js
actually, i am a current subscriber, and yes, you are right, they do have great customer service. as far as my comment about making customers happy, my rant was indeed only referring to phones, not customer service, seeing as how this is a thread about PHONES.
So now that Engadget is less than thrilled with the Hero, which one do they prefer.
I agree with the other posters- other than the iphone, i see no devices that would want me to abandon t-mobile.
