Keepin' it real fake, part CCXXI: Apple's iPhone and iPod nano hook up, combine
Hey, Apple -- you know that inspiration you've been looking for in order to concoct a proper iPhone nano? We just found it. Over in some seedy warehouse in the depths of Shenzhen, the aptly titled iphone nano has emerged. As you could likely surmise, this completely improper knockoff gentle combines the best features from Apple's iPhone and the iPod nano to create a singular, if not awkward device. Heck, there's even a 5 megapixel camera, which easily trumps the 3.2 megapixel shooter on the iPhone 3GS. It's all yours for just 90 bones, and you don't even have to sign your cellular soul away to AT&T. Look out Apple, we get the feeling this thing's going to be huge.

SWEET!
Sure it is huge. A HUGE laugh from me. :)
Not quite sure where you got 5mp camera from?
"4. 0.3 Mega pixel camera for Picture & Video capability,solomobi.com test put out biggest size is 640*480"
The back of the device has a graphic that says 5 mega pixel, then again it also has an Apple Logo =P
But you are right the specs don't match the images.
I wonder if that is 8 gigaBITS storage as wel =P
I think Mr. Murph was just looking at the pics and not actually reading the specs.
When did the applause of FRAUD start to become (the low, low standard of) blog-worthy? Josh should be adult enough by now to recognize that lines should be drawn where they did not exist in the 'old' days. Is Engadget Enterprises up for the challenge?...
This is not fraud. Fraud would imply this manufacturer doing something illegal in their country.
Furthermore, what this product demonstrates, rather paradoxically, is that the only innovation and pure competition for a free market to improve itself on (regarding such subtleties as price, contract, etc) is coming out of a communist country.
Spoken exactly as those who obfuscate ethical/moral dignity. Thanks for leading us down the primrose path whereby only that which is legal holds any degree of merit.
Quite telling that you (obviously and voluntarily ) skirt around the real issue, apparently, on Engadget's behalf.
Had you considered that I might think that the laws of the capitalist countries are the unethical and immoral actions? What these Chinese manufactures are doing is creating a multitude of devices far out-numbering those available on contract-based (and therefore locked) networks. Additionally, they are providing products fitting things consumers have actually called for, i.e. the excitement over rumours of an iPhone mini, internal digital tv receivers, etc. Finally, they are doing it all at a price that aught to serve as a shock to any consumer about to drop multiple hundreds of dollars for a phone that comes with thousands of dollars in contract commitments.
I am all for as many options on the table when it comes to shopping. These manufacturers are doing what patent law was first intended to do, provide a means for continual development due to constant innovation and competition. A proper spirit that needs to return to the concept of property is that one can not own an idea.
@absentia who said: "Had you considered that I might think that the laws of the capitalist countries are the unethical and immoral actions?"
Since you offered no evidence to that effect to consider, I had no reason to think on your behalf.
Your mockery of intellectual property is the only thing laughable here. As ANY informed person knows, one cannot patent an idea or concept. No patent attorney would (or could) ever submit an application based on 'conception'.
Also, it is quite convenient for you to overlook and -detach- the slave/child labor required to produce such fraudulent product in the spirit of cheap goods. MaoMart stockholder, are you?
Do you always get into the batter's box without a bat (or a helmet) or is that unique to your apologia on Engadget's behalf? Keep swingin', Slugger.
Ideas cannot be patented, as was demonstrated a few years ago by people trying to license internet links and electronic shopping.
The real problem may lie in the exclusivity of intellectual property. Intel is the best example of this. The few companies that hold a x86 patent depend on intel for this license renewal, which can then bully and enforce its law with its ally microsoft and block competitive architectures and operating systems. I am waiting to see what arm will achieve with netbooks and smartphones comes 2012.
This is the ethical position. Not the moral one which would imply heavy religious overtones and biased judgment and ultimately an abusive situation.
Ahhh one minute before i posted, here comes the hideous religious domineering moralist.
Have you ever considered that child labor may be the only way when developing a country ? One remedy is not to try and boycott these companies as control is simply impossible (try and find that excellent time magazine article on this subject). Instead a better way would be to improve their wages and to accelerate their economic development and create a new market.
Intellectual property should be inclusive. If law had imposed exclusive ip since middle age, science progress would have been much slower.
@andonemorething
I'm not sure why you keep making it out like I either am in cahoots with Chinese electronics manufacturing or an engadget apologist, but I'll keep biting. To tell you the truth, I just made this account today, I sell cell phones for the major carriers at a big box store, and thus keep up with the news here. Lately I've been loving the links to these "knock-off" or otherwise, non-major brands, and thought I'd share the paradoxical effect seeing these phones side by side with phones that (all told) cost 100X more.
I mean no disrespect to the major manufactures, and they certainly aren't taking any major hits because of these small time operations, and we both know that. All I came here to do was note how effectively manufacturers like this are running their businesses, by acting as good opportunists.
@Vincent who idiotically stated: "Have you ever considered that child labor may be the only way when developing a country?" In a population exceeding 1Billion? You're completely daft! Go read Aesop's fables and learn the universal lessons you obviously missed when you were 4 years old. Either that or go fuck yourself back to the rock from which you slithered. Your choice ...
@absentia: I never purported the notion that you were in "cahoots" with anyone. Your own words support the notion that you support the lowest common denominator philosophy of economics. Though you were obviously too young to have witnessed it first-hand at the time, the past 10 years of abusing that very philosophy is, in part, what brought about the current world-wide depression. Consumerism does not equate to proper commerce. It's the same foolish philosophy which has State governments dependent upon speeding ticket revenues in order to meet their budgets. Actually, rather than "foolish", it's a train-wreck method of running any company/government.
DAAAMMN. I want this PMP. This will change the GAME.
A 5 megapixels camera vs. 3 MP camera, doesnt means the 5mp is better, idiots, what makes the pictures look better are the lens
