T-Mobile UK changes mind, dubs its Hero the G2 Touch
T-Mobile's British division has had a last-minute change of heart, christening its latest Android set the "G2 Touch" instead of the G1 Touch moniker it had thrown around before. The news comes straight from T-Mobile UK's official Twitter account, which followed up shortly thereafter by announcing that the G2 Touch would be free (yes, free) on a £40 per month (about $65) contract of 18 months. Of course, that leads to the obvious question of what T-Mobile has planned for the G1 name -- is it dead, or is it considered a flagship badge that might see use on some future high-end Android model with a QWERTY keyboard? There are definitely some QWERTY loyalists in the mix here, so we can't imagine that T-Mobile plans on abandoning physical keyboards for Android altogether (and that goes for both sides of the pond, by the way).

What's up with T-Mo US not getting one? The hell with T-Mo US. Whoever carrier gets this hot phone, I'm ready to sign up for it.
So if T-Mo UK is definitely getting it, does that give us T-Mo USA customers hope for Hero? I know it was FCC approved with AT&T bands, but can we (pretty please) get it?
Even so, if it does come to the US, T-Mo will probably delay it so much that another, better phone will be out (like how Hero is out and they just released the MyTouch/Ion). Why can't they just be more on top of things?
Eugh. Where do the carriers get these horrible, unimaginative names? I'm getting well confused between all the "myTouchGooglemyG3" phones out there.
Google looked like they were behind a sensible naming policy with the G1 (which, in my mind, implied a G2 then a G3 etc - easy!) But then that got confused. Then the model names "Dream", "Magic" and "Hero" - easy, slightly cheesy and clear. The carriers then go and obfusicate them and wonder why people get confused.
The winning element of the iPhone was its clear brand that everyone recognised, even if the successors. If only t-Mobile could apply a similarly enduring and consistent (and not so childish-sounding) label to their high-end range..
I'll just flash my G1 to a stable hero port most likely the Hero wont be on T-Mobile, and like someone stated earlier if it does it will already be outdated tech...
£40 month! No thanks
I want the hero's OS on the galaxy...
