Samsung InstinctQ gets WiFi certification, but what is it?
Thought that the upcoming m850 was the end of the road for the Instinct series on Sprint? Apparently not, seeing how a so-called m900 "InstinctQ" just nabbed WiFi certification. Other than the fact that it's a "phone, dual mode," we can't make much of it -- but we do know that North American Samsungs starting with "SPH" are destined for Sprint, and the InstinctQ name certainly jibes with that. Cellpassion intriguingly claims that it could be packing Android, which would makes some amount of sense considering that Samsung and Sprint are both getting into the Android game and the Instinct line is considered one of Sprint's hero brands. We're going to hold off on waving the green flag of Android victory until we see some proof, but we're hopeful -- if not for our sake, than for Sprint's. [Warning: PDF link]

Hope it's Android for Sprint
Would be about time.
The M900 will is a full qwerty landscape slider + touchscreen with Android, for Sprint. Samsung outed this phone to employees of Sprint at certain training sessions. Come back and read this comment when the phone actually gets released (most likely in the Fall) to see that I was correct.
So they are planning on launching the M850 before they launch the M900 right? Cus I've been waiting for the M850 for what seems like forever...being this summer is packed with other cool phones coming out every other week. I hope they firm up a launch date soon, I heard that they are still tweaking the BREW UI for the M850 so it wouldn't launch for a couple more months.
They better hurry up the edge of my seat is starting to wear out. :)
Thanks for the heads up. I recently heard from an insider that the m850 is having a hardware issue with the gps and that this might cancel the launch. Any way that you can confirm that? You seem to know what your talking about...
Promising for sure. As a current "original" Instinct owner, I can say anything would be an improvement especially if it should be Android.
on howardforums there's a guy saying the cam will be 3mp's instead of the 5 on the 850 and it will have hpptt (qchat), don't understand the lower res cam but am excited about the ptt
No. It is still not safe for you to come out and troll, Blaine Witherspoon. Back under your rock, fool.

Its just a next gen instinct. I guess they could of put android on it but I'm guessing not.
Well if you're refering to the Touch row, where it says "2nd generation Instinct" on the Samsung Dash you'd be wrong. The Dash is the codename for the M850. Which is the next Instinct with BREW 4.0 on it. Its already been leaked in the community that is waiting for the release of the M850 that its running a newer version of the same old Instinct UI with a fifth tab for apps. Which is fine for me. I loved the UI in the M800/M810. I loved it so much I'm waiting for the M850 instead of getting a Pre, Tour or Touch Pro 2 specifically cus I loved the UI. Besides I have a G1 for all my smartphoning needs.
Altho when I had a M810 I was thinking that it was very smartphonish and that the line between dumbphone and smartphone was getting very blurry. Cus it reminded me a lot of the iPhone UI, grid patterned icons with different tabs. Using Opera Mini it browsed the internet awesome, I'd even use it over my G1 to browse sites. With Sprint Mobile Mail and the IM client it worked more reliably at pushing email than my G1 and having an enjoyable IM client unlike my G1s agravating one. I think the only problem with the BREW interfaced Instincts were the lack of apps. Shrug. I was surprised that I liked a full featured dumbphone over smartphone offerings like my G1, winmo handsets and the iPhone.
Either way this is a long post saying I'm passing up other options and waiting to get my hands on the M850.
Are you positive it's running the same UI. Personally, I believe that's the weakest point with the Instinct and would be a much better device if it ran TouchWiz.
I hope the first Android phone doesn't get branded as an Instinct. If so they will probably force all Android phones afterwards and this Samsung to need to be activated under a Simply Anything Plan since all other Instincts do too.
*Simply Everything*
I don't know why people are so down on being forced into everything data plans. If you're going to have a smartphone that is constantly updating from the sprint network you need unlimited data. Android totally needs a data plan. I can see why you might not need it on a BREW OS phone being there wasn't any real apps for the original instinct but android you actually have options. But if all you want is basic phone usage and the occasional text there are plenty of Rant/Exclaim, Lotus or Rumor2 options for you. It seems to me people should be understanding that if you get a phone that is constantly talking to the data network they're doing you a favor and saving your pocketbook a little bit in the long run.
I guess my comment makes me sound very assholey but if you're not using a smartphone for what its designed for I don't understand the reason for having one. Status symbol or something? Cus it can't be just to have a touchscreen phone otherwise you wouldn't care if it had android on it.
Break it down for me please.
No, no. I use my data plan all the time and I understand the need for having a data plan for a smartphone. Its just that I have been a customer with Sprint for more than 10 years and love my grandfathered family plan which has already has a unlimited data plan. I also don't use too many minutes so unlimited minutes wouldn't be necessary for me. So switching to a SE plan would cost me twice as much without any benefit over my existing plan. I don't blame Sprint for trying to get people off of plans that they don't make alot of profit from but they are certainly not doing me any favors in forcing these SE plans. I think I will eventually switch if they do force the SE plan for all Android phones but hopefully I can get the Pro2 as my next phone without SE.
you dont need the "simply everything" plan, just and "everything data" plan, there are a few minute options like 450 for $70 which i personally have, there are also "everything family data" 2 lines $130 for 1500 minutes and $20 extra for each other line. I have a 20% discount on a$70 plan that lets me do what i do, and that includes the blackberry data for my tour
