Nokia E72 passes FCC in North American flavor
Speak of the devil -- we were just chatting about Nokia's new strategy for getting the best devices to the US (even if it means going unlocked if necessary), and what do you know? That's right, the E72 (or E72-2, if you want to get technical about it) has just won its FCC badge, offering full HSPA on the 850 and 1900MHz bands in addition to quadband EDGE and HSPA 2100 for those times when you find yourself out of the Western Hemisphere. The fact that this phone is unbranded is both a blessing and a curse -- a blessing because... well, it's not carrier branded, but a curse because that means we're probably going to be subject to the usual Nokia preorder rigmarole / flagship store drama to get it. You know we'll still end up doing it, though, and so will you.

What about Rogers here in Canada? Does anybody think they will get it since the received the E71?
Definitely a contender for my upgrade in January!
This phone looks really, really nice. If you can say "better than the E71" then it is already on the short list of Best Nokia Phone Ever. That said, I think I will hold on to my N97 and E71 until Symbian^2 comes around.
I think Nokia needs to combine the strengths of the E-series and N-series and then get their OS to finally compete with the iPhone. I don't mind the N97 interface for now, but if the bloggers mind plenty of people will. Then seriously Nokia, the N9X series deserves to get as much metal and quality plastic and tight fitting parts as the E-series, given we're paying for top of the line and competing against the XPERIA and Touch Pro types, not even the iPhone and Pre. (even outside the US; on contract in HK the E71 is free and the N97 comes out to ~$250 USD).
I'm with Ypoknons. I would really like to see some metal being used in the casing on Nseries. Actually, even the material used in the back of the N95-3, that soft feeling material, I would like to see again.

So anybody want to buy and E71? Want. This. Phone.
will the E71 be compatible w/ verizon or just ATT ????? anyone ??
GSM, which works on either TMO or ATT. On ATT, it will work full 3G, but EDGE only on TMO. No CDMA providers (Sprint, Verizon, Metro, Cricket, etc).
Probably the biggest benefit of GSM providers -- being able to use your own UNhacked, UNmodified, non-carrier-specific phones. They just work so much better than the hacked, chopped, and locked phones from providers that force their own mods on you.
Phone looks great, but I could never get used to the bottom letter keys all being shifted over to the left one when compared to other qwerty devices.
i want this!
The Rogers branded and locked version of the E71 is a joke - they'll probably carry it and it will probably be bloated and tired very much like they've done it in the past. Just say no and stick to the unbranded model for piece of mind.
