HTC Touch Pro2 calls dibs on 3.5mm audio jack for Telus and Verizon
That was quick. We heard that HTC was moving to standardize around 3.5mm audio jacks but we weren't necessarily expecting the meaty Touch Pro2 to be on that list of devices. After all, it's already shipping in its GSM version. Nevertheless, MobileSyrup has a soon-to-be released CDMA version of the Touch Pro2 for Telus (and ultimately, Verizon) that goes straight-up 3.5mm -- no goofy ExtUSB jack converter required. Oh, and they've got video to prove it. See it after the break.

Wow
What about the Sprint version
If the sprint version has it i may actually get the TP2 instead of the Hero.
As a Sprint PCS customer and Touch Pro owner, this would be an easy upgrade decision if it came 3.5" out of the box.
an the t-mobile version?
its already been manufactured without it, unfortunately.
ALL GSM/UMTS versions (including ATT and T-Mobile versions) DOESN'T have separate 3.5 jack, only hybrid USB jack
fortunately, G1 headset wire (no earphone) is just $10 from T-Mobile corp store, will work with TP II and Dash 3G
anyone have an idea when this will be released for Verizon?
I saw projected for Oct-Dec on pocketnow
Maybe that's the reason for the delayed (rumored) TP2 Sprint launch.
I really hope they don't have us waiting forever. I am almost contemplating getting the BB Tour. The Touch Pro 1 has not been out a year yet and the TP2 is already scheduled to be released. If I were the owner of an original TP I'd be kinda up.
Isn't it amazing how much power these carriers have over the manufacturers?
What about the upcoming AT&T version? Isn't a GSM version more "world-friendly"?
The Sprint version will actually have a built in GSM radio. Therefore, it will be just as world friendly as any AT&T phone. I don't think it will have frequencies for US 3G though so you wouldn't be able to perfectly transfer it over to a US carrier. Also, I think it will be locked to US companies, though that's easy to get around in today's hacker enviroment.
when is the 'rumored' sprint release - upon seeing it it will decide what my next phone will be.... BB, IPhone, or TP2 - sorry Pre just way to small for my hands....
I have tested the phone it will be labelled as the XV6875. Any questions feel free to let me know.
I've got a question -- when is this thing coming out for Verizon????
We may be looking at Q1 2010. They wanted to launch for X-Mas but there has been ALOT of software problems.
By "software problems", you mean "we haven't yet figured out how to replace any new or current functionality provided by Windows Mobile or HTC for free with our own, crappy versions that we bill you out the nose for".
Amen-if vz service wasn't so much better than the rest where I live, I would leave on that principle alone-- talking about greed. Leave the phones alone and put them out. They are so late to the party on every phone, they'll be releasing the TP2 right about when the next model is just coming out...
Explain to me why it wouldn't be almost exactly the same thing you guys did to the original Touch Pro. Same basic hardware, other than a few minor additions/improvements, and the same OS. What's different, other than the fact that you won't be locking down GPS out of the box?
How about you tell your bosses to keep focused on service/coverage, and let the buys over at xda and ppcgeeks handle the big boy stuff, like software and customizations.
If there are truly software delays, then why has the Verizon ROM for the TP2 apparently reached "shipped" status, and rumor also has it that demo units were shipped to corp customers this week. Those demo units typically don't go out until 1-2 months prior to release.
Thank you Palm for knockin some sense into these manufacturers!!
with an amazing OS and form factor the Pre still managed to get a great speaker, 3.5mm headjack, and camera flash.
oh and Pandoras CEO for talking trash about HTC because their phones with missing features
Wanted to share this contest that is going on for HTC Touch Pro2 phone over at htcpedia.com

Verizon Tester: What I want to know is if the Verizon Touch Pro 2 will be hosting WM 6.5 by the time it comes out?
by the time this comes out, 6.5 will be old
Uh-oh Sprint... I love you, I really do. But your version better have a 3.5mm socket too, or i'll be picking up this one or the Hero!!!
Oh yeah, and the Touch Pro2 is the XV6975, not the XV6875.
xv6875 is tp2 xv6975 would be diamond2, xv6800/mogul=>xv6850/tp=>xv6875/tp2, xv6900/vogue=>xv6950/diamond=>xv6975/diamond2, only makes sense...
Im not here to argue with anyone nor breakdown testing procedures in fanatical detail. RanchHand, to answer your question it will run 6.5. I will say that they are taking measures to open up many of the things you have complained about. I agree with you, it has certainly been a long time coming. We have a very large department and testing facility that is focused strictly on the open handset innitiative. Beginning in Q1 of 2010 you will begin to see some major changes and I will be happy to pass along more info later on.
I would just like to thank you, Verizon Tester, for keeping a sense of level-headed tact and class in the face of obvious trolling rather than stooping to the lowest common denominator while disseminating useful information helping to satiate those of us genuinely interested in this upcoming phone.
Unofficial or not, that speaks volumes for Verizon.
That said, my New Every Two date hits in October... think you *could* cut a corner or two on the VZ apps?
Thank you Rojo. My feedback has always been to open up phones to allow customers to personalize their equipment. The push for the open handset innitiative should hopefully change that. I am always willing to hear ideas and comments to pass on to my management team so that we can provide equipment that fits not only the majority but minority of cell phone users. By the way, I just posted an update about the Motorola Android phone that will be coming very shortly to us. It is currently labeled in testing as the Motorola A855 and I will pass more info along as it becomes available.
I need your help peeps. I am in a quandry. I am a loyal BB user. Currently on a VZ Pearl 8130 which is a good device. That being said, I am bored. Here are my choices; 1) Storm 2 which should be out black friday. If they have the bugs from the original Storm worked out, it could be an awesome device. 2) BB Tour, great stable device with little tiny keys and I have large hands so typing may be an issue. 3) HTC Touch Pro 2. This phone looks awesome. My two concerns here are size; this baby is HUGE. Probably need a man purse just to tote it. (Or satchel as Alan in hangover called it.) and WinMo. Not sold on it whether it's 6.1 or maybe 6.5. The BB OS is still a great system.
Thanks everybody for your help and input.
