Our attention is still vaguely fixed on that
Hero off in the distance, but let's focus for just a minute -- the
myTouch 3G for T-Mobile is now in our well-guarded possession as it trudges toward a late July release for those lucky enough to pre-order. Other than a few silkscreened details, make no mistake -- the myTouch is literally an HTC
Magic in basically all but name (we compare it with a Rogers-branded Magic in our gallery below so you can see what we mean), and all things considered, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Like all of its Magic contemporaries, the phone feels small and well-balanced in the hand; one unique detail, though, is the crazy packaging which consists of a semi-soft zippered nylon case enclosed by a paper sleeve. It's cool, different, and unlike a regular box, it's something you'll probably want to hold on to.
This is the first time we've seen it in that "merlot" shade, and in person, this is a great-looking color that could play well with anybody -- man or woman, business or casual. It's a touch of highlight without going overboard (unlike, say, the actual
Highlight). Software-wise, this is looking like a bone-stock Android 1.5 build so far (notice the keyboard, for example), which plays with T-Mobile's prior statements that its software value-add with these sets would primarily come through Market downloads. Stay tuned for our full review, but in the meantime, enjoy some visuals!
looks like a very nice telephone.
This phone is hotter than I thought.
Beats the G1.
sucks theres still no root for the mytouch
Actually there is. Here you go link
sorry here's the link http://android-unleashed.com/2009/06/how-to-root-the-mytouch-3g.html
yes there is if you look at android-unleashed.com
Sexy. Needs a physical keyboard, however.
So i actually love the cartoon-y look of the android notification/status bar. MUCH better than the transparent, get-it-done-but-ugly transparent WM6.0 icons and measures on my Q9m
Nice looking phone
this is actually a lot nicer than I though! :)
Nice box! Me likes :)
I like I like the Hero Software but HOnestly I really like the look of the Magic/MyTouch much better than Hero hardware. Now if they could have the Look of the MyTouch with the Software/Specs of the Hero and throw in a Hardware Keyboard and Hell if you wouldn't have one Fantastic Phone.
Plus I really dig the Merlot color, I wish they'd use it in Future phones.
I actually agree with you. However, there's one thing that would stop me from ever buying this phone, that damn HTC mini USB port/headphone jack.
The MT3G,and the HTC HERO,are exactly the same hardware specs. The only thing the hero has is its ROM upgraded with the new HTC user interface. In my opinion im getting the MT3G in a few days in white and cant wait.I dont know why people are complaining about no slide out keyboard, thats why its called MYTOUCH,cause its all touch! If you really want a keyboard then get the G1.I personally have had slider phones and im just sick of it,theyre too bulky and heavy, and in some phones the sliding mechanism is just sub par.
yeah its a nice phone ..
but who the hell came up with the name
"MyTouch 3G"? its stoopid in my opinion .
what is that in pic #16 is that the charger?
This is a really nice device. I have an iPhone 3G(s) but, I have been curious about the upcoming android handsets. I love the new innovation and doors that the new mobile platforms will bring. Due to both innovation and forced through 'Good Ole Competition'. Something that's great for all of us consumers. Nevertheless, I hope this is a great start for T-Mobile in a positive direction to catching up to the other big carriers. Now, if they can just roll out more 3G. They are getting sluggish like At&t.
I also have a watchful eye on the Palm Pre. Although, I think WEBos is a little pre-mature yet. Nevertheless, GSM/HSPA is the BOMB!!!
well this phone is freaking awesome! i cant wait til T-mobile get it in stores!
next month.. i guess ill deal with Crickets nasty ass phone for half a month still
i hate how there isnt a 3.5 jack for the headphones.. and would have to use an adapter for my
headphones, but since the usb port does everything.. can complain that much.
i was gonna buy the G1. but chose to get this instead since its Sexier and.. better all around
does anybody know the actual date when My Touch will be out in stores??
all i found is... "will be next month"
this is a Good Contender for that damn other nasty rotten fruit phone..
August 5th
I hope TMo doesn't make us wait till 2 days before the consumer launch to get this. That would be whack.
I hope they start shipping these things now. Early adopters like us can give them all the feedback they need to get this one right before they launch it to the masses.
actrually engadget the t mobile and every other version of the magic besides the rogers one has 192mb of ram and the rogers one has 288mb
Really ? That would be weird that only canada would be favored and get more ram

This phone looks amazing but unfortunately no 3.5mm jack :-( and i hope the virtual keyboard is easier to type on than on the G1 that keyboard is cramped and even somewhat of a nuisance in landscape mode
Too bad T-Mobile USA picked the 192 MB version of the hardware - the extra 96MB of RAM would have been nice. An extra 256MB of ROM is OK but with huge microSD cards available is it really that useful? I'm also wary of the stock Cupcake virtual keyboard. I guess only trying one out in-store will help. At least it is smaller than the G1 and the battery is a bit bigger.
I just returned my 18th G1 today and I pre ordered this, they say pre order will arive between july 29th and august 1st, and you can pre order and put the rest on the monthly intsallment plan iif youd like, I ordered the White one but now I regret not getting the black one lol
, i played with the merlot and white one in the store today and Maybe its just me but the merlot one felt a lil heavier.. and @ JUSTIn its available august 5th and the htc touch pro will be available august 12th
It's not a good looking phone with mediocre specs!
Typical of T-Mobile as their selection of phones S*ck!
Only staying with them since their phone rate plans are the most reasonable in my area!
T-Mobile needs to get its act together and get phones that the rest of the world (ie. Asia and Europe) has instead of giving out LOW to MID END phones to the N. American public!!
I hear ya man. I have tried all the major carriers and t- mobile offers the best rate plans by far. But... It has the most ugly, boring phones on earth!! The samsung memoir is a pretty cool toy but that's it! I too wish they would get on board with the other carriers and start carrying the cool Nokia and SE handsets. I buy my phones unlocked right now cuz I don't want to fall asleep looking at a tmobile phone. Pretty boring guys!!!!! Wake up!!!
I'd rather have a hero. Better in every way
It's quite time I want to change my ooold phone (ericsson k610i), and really I don't know
which one I should choose..
The Iphone is not for me.. I hate the multitasking lag.. even though it's a great phone..
WinMo device? Noo...
I guess Android is what will suit best for me..
I got a chance to play 2 min yesterday in a store with the Magic (myTouch3G)..
I never had a touch device and I must say, this goes beyond my expectations..
Really.
The touchscreen is very snappy..
I tried the keyboard and i found it very usable..
Also the phone it's very compact.. From the photo and video I saw, it seemed much bigger..
SO, it's a great device (IMO).
My only "Dilemma" is this (I'm from Italy):
* Buy it without a carrier, and it would cost me 415eur (597usd)
* With Vodafone: 149eur (214usd) + 60eur (86usd) monthly (for 2 year) for 500 minutes of phonecall and 2GB monthly of data
I never had a change to test the WiFi coverage in my city, so I really don't know what to do...
The other thing is that soon (I guess) the Hero will be released, so this will drop the price of the Magic..
Should I wait??
AAhhrg.. I want this badly..
Any suggestion?
Cheers from Italy

I received my preordered MyTouch on July 30th and I've been playing with it non-stop since. I really can't find anything to complain about, nothing to nit-pick. I use blue tooth headsets so the 3.5 jack isn't an issue for me. I rarely used a texting phone keyboard before, but I find the touch screen accurate and fast. I don't use text abbreviations, I type out full sentences in my e-mail and text messages (call me old fashioned but I'm not in that big of a hurry).
I see comments like "The XX phone is better" without any explanation why. I like this phone a lot and It's already made my life a bit easier: Really fast gmail, easy to start apps and to navigate. Nice little features like the draw pattern to unlock and lots of very usefull apps.
It's a keeper.
