HTC adopting Android on 50% of its handsets in 2010?
Uh oh Microsoft, this can't be good news. HTC, the premier manufacturer of Windows Mobile cellphones is rumored to be shifting half of its handsets to Google's Android OS in 2010. To put this in perspective, HTC lists 28 devices on its European website and of those, just 2 run Android, the rest are WinMo. DigiTimes' sources claim that HTC is on track to make 30% of its 2009 handsets Android-based which means that several of Andy Rubin's 15 to 20 Android handsets coming this year would have to be HTC branded for this to be true. DigiTimes also claims that HTC will launch a handset that's simultaneously a "high-profile 3G handset" and "entry-level model" with touchscreen and TouchFlo 3D / Sense UI. HTC is said to achieve this seemingly contradictory feat by basing the handset on Qualcomm's BREW Mobile Platform when it launches in September or October. Of course, none of this is confirmed, but will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion when HTC reports earnings on July 30th.

So we found the mysterious handset manufacturer that showed andy rubin 18 android powered devices during one meeting !
I cannot wait to be able to purchase the replacements of the g1 and g2.
With quad-band 3g / 800x450 / tegra inside (and game controllers ala psp go) ;)
Awesome. I've been pretty impressed with my G1. The only real complaints would be how the OS bogs sometimes, larger battery plz, and i'd like a higher build quality. Not that I've broken my G1. But it just doesn't feel as solid as most Samsung handsets. But I won't be anywhere near my upgrade on Tmobile so I'll be waiting a while.
But on the other subrumor. I think an entry level HTC touch phone with Brew would be awesome. Very Instinctesque, I might be the only fan in the world (besides the guys at qualcomm) of the Brew OS. Like I've said in previous posts I think a full featured dumbphone tends to work smoother for everyday use than most smartphones. I mean, Sprint Mobile Mail, I'M messenger, Opera Mini, and Navigation each running perfectly smooth there's not much more I do with my G1 that I couldn't do on an Instinct S30.
Playing with everyones iPhones I can, I always think to myself other than an accelerometer and nice hardware I don't see that the Mac OS is that much different than Brew on the Instinct S30. The only real difference in the OS are the apps available to the iPhone. I definately don't think the iPhone OS is as strong as a real smartphone OS like Winmo or Android. Once the Instinct 2 comes out it'll have fancier hardware than the 3GS but smaller memory. If anyone makes apps for it, it would seem like a great alternative.
Um... not to burst the bubble of this post, but isn't HTC also the "premier" manufacturer for Android devices at the moment?
This doesn't really change anything. The brew stuff is kind of news, though. I would make that the focus of your post, Thomas.
That picture makes me happy.
Most people see this coming. Windows Mobile is demised!
So I have read two different stories on this subject, I read this story a while back and understood that in 2010 HTC will make 50% of its phones android based. Then I read an article from informationweek.com about androids push into Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platforms...and they said that HTC wishes to make 50% of its sales from adroid based phones stating that 30% of its sales are from andriod phones as of right now. So is it they are making half of their phones with android OS in 2010, or they want 50% of their sales to be from android phones in 2010?
