Palm Pre drops to $99 at Best Buy (update: "error is being corrected," says Best Buy)
Interesting -- just a couple days after Sprint CEO Dan Hesse told a conference that "it's too early to tell" if the Pre's a hit while talking about Android, the latest Best Buy ad shows Palm's baby on sale for just $99 on a two-year contract. That ought to spike some sales, but we'll see if its just a one-week special or a permanent drop before we start trying to read any tea leaves here -- anyone running out to grab one?
Update: Best Buy marketing manager John Bernier has chimed in via his Twitter account to say that the Pre is $199 and that the "error is being corrected." It'll be interesting to see if any lucky customers managed to nab the device for less than a Benjamin.

Wow. So who's going to get one now?
It's not on the website--Any advice? A one-day offer?
I wasn't able to find it on the standard BB sight, or the BB Mobile site... Off to the store here in a little bit.
So I just bought my palm pre like a goon from a sprint store a week ago. Called the sprint store they tried giving me a run around that best buy was doing this because they had limited supplies and some bs about a waiting list. Checked online and its available at every store within 50 miles. So I then told sprint that I wanted to cancel (since I am still within my 30 days). . . . and as I am typing they called me back and told me that they could send me a $100 credit in 46 days. . . so I took careful consideration and thought of $200 cash in my hand now, or $100 in 5-7 weeks from my initial rebate then another $100 in 46 days. It should also be mentioned best buy offers a better insurance than your local sprint store for $3 bucks more a month, however, no deductible and unlimited claims, even covers water damage!
yes it's true, bought another one yesterday for the $199 and went back today to see if they would match the price and they did, gave me back a nice crisp Benjamin!
Price is true, go get them
Mathew, true but the only thing BB insurance doesn't cover is a lost or stolen phone. That's why I opted for Sprint, sucks but it protects me 100%
Dear Steve Jobs,
Thank you for making the iPhone $99. Now the Pre is even cheaper. Can you lower the price of the iPhone again?

Dear David S.,
Shut up you're not funny. Can you never open your mouth again?
-David M.
i got one at $99. they seemed very surprised at the price. :D
I'm sure glad they didn't fix the "error" before I got there!
Guess some of us lucked out and got a Pre for $99.99!
Sorry for the rest.
"we 'fixed' the glitch"
thanks, Bob.
they probably did this on purpose and called it a "glitch". Who would have access to change the price on all stores, get my drift? what a hell of a glitch!!
I bought mine on Friday at a Best Buy, then went back yesterday and got it price_matched.
I got mine today b/c the girl promised the price and when i showed up around three this afternoon they still had the pricing tag that said $99. I was the last one to buy it at that price once they realized they needed to change it.
You got duped. As someone who works for BBYM, Black Tie does not cover water damage as in complete submersion. It would only cover water damage if it were light splashes or something like that.
YES! This post saved me $106! Thanks Engadget!!! I had actually bought my Pre from Best Buy on 7/6 for the $199, but when I saw this post, I checked on line, and just like others who posted here, saw it was still showing $199. Thinking this might be an in-store promotion only, I went to my local Best Buy store, and the cheerfully refunded the $106 (tax) to my credit card. I'm surprised to see this was an error, but for once it worked out in my favor... maybe I should play the lotto...
