RIM officially intros BlackBerry Curve 8520, promises "out of the box" Mac compatibility
Sadly enough, this is pretty much par for the course with RIM. We talk about a BlackBerry for months on end, and after everyone grows acquainted with its features via less-than-official sources, the company finally confesses. At any rate, the long-awaited BlackBerry Curve 8520 (which may or may not go by Gemini on T-Mobile) has finally found a dedicated landing page on its maker's website, and while the list of specifications aren't a surprise, there is one thing that caught our eye. Alongside the 2 megapixel camera, video recording mode, WiFi radio, 1,150mAh battery (which is good for 4.5 hours of talk time or 17 days in standby), a fairly robust multimedia player and a 320 x 240 resolution display, RIM also promises "out of the box Mac compatibility." Specifically, we're told that users will be able to "sync contacts, calendars and notes" by using BlackBerry Desktop Software on Apple computers. Of course, when clicking for more information, we're simply ported over to a page informing us that the Mac-specific version of the aforesaid platform won't arrive until September. So, is the 8520 special, or is that August 5th ship date around 30 days off?
Update: RIM just confirmed the T-Mobile USA release date: it's August 5th for $48.88 (from Walmart, anyway) on a two-year agreement. Guess we'll see just how legitimate that Mac claim is here soon, huh?

its still sad i dont get why more bloggers are not getting on rim for doing the same crap from 3 years ago.
1 versions with wifi
1 versions for gps
cdma version who likely will only have gps
half way through 2009 and they are still not putting both into phones.
that info is according to crackberry.com
BGR did a write up about that very issue. Because of RIM's top rated security on their devices, the OS has become a little long in the tooth. Most business users are hanging on to their Blackberry's for this very reason, besides have you ever tried to type an email on a touch screen device? It's cumbersome to say the least. We are all hoping for a revamp of the OS in the near future, and many will defect if RIM doesnt get their act together. I would say most are very loyal BB users and will give RIM a chance to come through in the clutch.
wow a 320 x 240 display....
A nice looking phone. The white version looks pretty crisp! :)
I hope TMO USA puts this on their Prepaid lineup!
$129 dollars (with a 2 year contract) for a BEGINNERS BlackBerry????
The BB 8900 is (on a 2 year contract) is cheaper than that with some carriers!
I said the same thign BGR said in February on howardforums. anyways thats not what im referring to. designing one unit with wifi and no gps another with no wifi and gps is ridiculous in this day and age. Thats my issue
Theres no track ball on it..... is it going to be that cursor pad thing
I guess I should wait and see before I renew my phone contract and upgrade my Blackberry. I may just wait until October to see if the rumors of the iPhone coming to Telus are true but I have grown fond of my Blackberry.
I'm waiting for the Driftwood, its like this one but with 3g, GPS and of course Wifi for UMA. Supposedly drops in September.
how does this compare to the 8900 (which i got back in feb?)
I love my Pearl... for the most part. Some friend's have new Black Berrys and Newer WinMo Android Iphones... when comparing the web browsers, RIM ought to be embarrassed! Infact my buddies cheap Samsung Instinct has a more useful browser! I I played with a Storm and thought it would have a nice browser.... i was so wrong its the same one from my Pearl! When the new Touch Pro2 comes out, I am going to give it a shot.... I never thought i would say that!
