If trashing your push messaging wasn't enough to steer you clear of using your iPhone in unauthorized ways, this next bit of news might have you back on the straight and narrow. According to Wired, Apple's latest salvo in the fight over jailbreaking is a claim that pernicious, iPhone wielding techno-hackers at home or abroad could modify the baseband and use it to attack cellphone towers, "rendering the tower entirely inoperable to process calls or transmit data." Of course, the idea that this would become more likely if the legal status of jailbreaking changes is totally absurd, but why let that stand in the way of a legal argument?In a related note, one of our editors (whose jailbroken iPhone shall remain nameless) got a strange baseband pop-up error this morning -- the very same morning that AT&T is suffering a "massive connectivity outage" throughout the northeast and midwest. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.

Unlocked phones have been on wireless networks for some time now, dont give me that shit. Has anyone taken over cell towers yet? Not to my knowledge. I'm sorry I just can't bring myself to feel bad for Apple or AT&T. You introduce what is essentially a mobile Unix box with cell capability and then try to lock it down for whatever paranoid reason. What did these idiots expect people would do once they started limiting everyone on what they can put on the device they OWN? Imagine what would happen if Dell and your ISP tried to pull this crap? The excuse has always been bandwidth. "We don't want to have our network crippled by too many bandwidth hungry applications. It will decrease our quality of service." Well sorry, you offered the service and sold the devices, perhaps you should spend more time fixing your infrastructure than you do opressing your customers!
apple is stupid. I think they are going to make a second version of the iphone os, similar to the ipod touch, to allow advanced features like multitasking and normal brain usage. That way they can charge extra (cha ching) for business and anyone who's IQ level is mildly retarded or higher, while still boasting the most idiot proof smartphone for all of those who are severely retarded. (This post was in humor I know retarded people can comprehend pausing tetris to play bubble breaker than resuming tetris)

Cell phones are clients on towers. If there really is a security issue, it needs to be patched. Yelling at your most loyal customers probably isn't the best choice
