T-Mobile announces HTC Touch Pro2 for August 12 availability
Sure, the Touch Pro2 from HTC is available from a variety of carriers around the world at this point -- but you won't find many (read: none) that are offering it in the US right now, which makes T-Mobile's launch especially notable. As expected, it'll be hitting on August 12, bringing a 3.2 megapixel camera, AWS 3G, GPS, a glorious 3.6-inch WVGA display, WiFi, and that unique Straight Talk tech that should make the phone one of the best speakerphones you've ever used (frequent conference callers, take note). Pricing hasn't been announced, but expect it in the lovely shade pictures above, which is being termed "mocha" (your choice of vocabulary may vary).

Holla!!! About time....
damnit.. wtf AT&T!!!
now to decide whether its worth it or not to switch carriers... :|
I hear ya. I'm really hoping AT&T's front 4 buttons don't have the TMo styling though.... yeesh!
Ask yourself this: do I really want to use T-Mobile? I'll pay out the ass to roam on AT&T's network.
@Pheonix - T-Mobile doesn't charge you to roam on AT&T. It's included with no charges.
Hmmm...don't see the announcement on T-Mobile.com yet. Maybe to be announced Wednesday morning?
couldn't find it either...
I also fail to see any official cited source for this story.
Looking at the picture though, I find it interesting to note that extUSB port on the phone. I hope the reason AT&T are taking so long is because they want the 3.5mm jack...

official source T-Mobile itself
I've seen the official T-Mobile press release; I just meant that the launch announcement has yet to appear on the T-Mobile website -- it doesn't even (as of this posting) appear on the page that lists Press Releases.
Not sure what the previous poster meant...but Tmonews.com is not an official source, which they state on their masthead -- not connected to T-Mobile at all.
Ok it was just a link on tmonews, that does show the official T-Mobile press release. No need to nit pick, was just trying to help.
that means its closer to sprint good..
We can thank the pre for sprint not launching the touch pro 2 first.
This is bull shit!
The T-Mobile designers should be FIRED!! It looks like crap compared to the UK version!
I know! What's the deal with the color scheme and the raised buttons?! I'm on T-Mobile and this really disappoints me.
i'm so sad that this doesnt come in the silver key....do you think they'll have an unlock silver keyed version in the US? though, specs should be relatively similar to the ATT one.
I don't understand why it's called the Touch Pro2 when they never even carried the original Touch Pro...?
Are you an idiot? Its called the touch pro2 because...wait for it... ITS THE TOUCH PRO2.
Whether or not they carried the first device doesn't change the name of this one, numskull.
Just found out, if you're waiting to get the device and get the unlock code so you can use it on AT&T, it has been confirmed that it WON'T work on AT&T 3G, only EDGE. So in essence, you can get the unlocked version or T-Mobile version off contract, either way, you aren't getting 3G 'til the Touch Pro2 hits the AT&T bands. T-Mobile 3G is nothing compared to Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T 3G, and is barely faster than their EDGE data. My 1.5 year old Sidekick Slide using EDGE is faster than my newer Sidekick LX 2009 running on "3G." In my opinion, the unlocked version is worth it, about the same price, and can be bought a whole lot earlier than August 12.
"Just found out, if you're waiting to get the device and get the unlock code so you can use it on AT&T, it has been confirmed that it WON'T work on AT&T 3G, only EDGE."
No shit. It's not just this T-Mobile phone that won't work on ATT 3G, it's any 3G T-Mobile phone. Just like ATT 3G devices don't work on T-Mobile and never will be able to because of the different bands.
Thank you Captain Obvious- you can put your cape away now.
BTW- recent speed tests showed T-mobile being second to Verizon, and almost doubling AT&T's 3G speeds.
Go, read, enjoy.
If T-Mobile has 3G speeds that are second to Verizon it's due to the fact that their 3G isn't available in all markets yet. The midwest and east coast won't have 3G until the 3rd and 4th quarter this year respectively. I have no problems with data speed using an iPhone in Indianapolis what so ever.
I am so excited!! I screamed at work I am so excited. This has made me so happy and to see it coming in a colour that I actually like... Yeah, August 12th cannot come soon enough. Now hmm... only to wait for winmo 6.5.
So friggin excited!
I'll have to consider buying this.
But if HTC made the Touch Pro 2 with a capacitive touchscreen, then I'll go buy it in a heartbeat.
The whole capacitive arguement for WinMo devices is moot, 6.5 doesn't support it. MS has stated a few times that it won't be supporting capacitive until at least WM7, which will be well into 2010. Who even cares anyway, capacitive is a buzz word. It's already been shown that resistive can do 10x multi-touch; and resistive has pressure sensitivity, which capacitive does not have. Trust me, resistive can be tweaked to be almost as sensitive as capacitive, Touch Pro 1 owners with DiamonTweak and AdvancedConfig know what's up.
Htc makes the best resistive screens.. Better than most capacitive ones.. So dont let that be your reason.. plus every once in a while a stylus comes in handy
I still can't believe they are calling it the TouchPro 2 when they didn't bother to sell the Touch Pro 1.
Are you LEARNING Impaired or just Ignorant?
Just wondering! ; D
@Butler: You need to pay more attention to phone releases. AT&T's Touch Pro is called the Fuze. And T-Mobile's version of the Snap is called, the Dash 3G. Therefore, it isn't far fetched to expect T-Mobile to have picked a different name for the Touch Pro 2, and in my opinion, they should've done that. I'm sorry for the device purists and fanboys but a "T-Mobile Touch Pro 2" brings the inevitable question "Where's the T-Mobile Touch Pro 1?", and that in turn brings the memory of how T-Mobile chose not to pick the first Touch Pro and kept everybody suffering with the crappy, outdated Wing.
I called T-mobile today to see if I can get an official on price and still nothing. Release date is the same but no price or possible deal info. Price should be avail this week. I had the Wing and was dissapointed as soon as i put some music and a few files...even with a micro-SD that phone couldn't push much.... I hope that the that new processor is all it sounds like.
same processor
Mocha? Why? The silver/black combo looks sooo much slicker, and more appropriate for a business-centric device.
Color me disappointed if Tmo doesn't offer a choice between the two.
I think they wanted to be sure that this would be their last winmo querty phone. A hideous color design is a surefire way to do that.
Waiting 3 weeks for the Sprint version, even though it has a funkified back, may be worth the wait.
So, I got the Mocha and it's much less mocha than expected and more business-like.
Very nice color scheme, actually.
So, color me mocha, I suppose.
What the hell did they do to the design of this?? It looks like a KIRF.
This thing is absolutely hideous. It looks no where as nice as the silver/black Touch Pro 2 that is available unlocked in the UK. Just like the wing, t-mobile done facked up a perfectly awesome phone.
If this dude was running android, itd be amazing. But i feel like all this touchflo business is like putting lipstick on a wndows mobile-powered pig o wait...
My goodness, you boys love to whine like little girls who didn't get the love they needed from their fathers. Do any of you remember what we've had to choose from for the last couple of years? We chose Tmobile for the better rates, have waited for their version of 3G, have been shut out of buying unlocked phones because of TMO'd 1700 band 3G instead of the universal appeal of 1900 band and now we finally get a solid HTC MAGIC with 3G and Touch PRO 2 compatible with TMO 3g! Obviously they did marketing research to determine that color choice. I only see 38 comments so far. Do you really think only 38 of our opinions count in TMO's decision to color the phone the way they did? Lets cut some slack and really appreciate them spending the money to get the rights to carry this beast. We could have had worse. Of course, I still dream of the N97, even if it did fall short. Just love the Nokia ringtone and now I won't have it ever again....huh...........
Damn and I just switched from T-Mobile. I gave them 1 last chance with the G1 - awesome phone but crappy service and signal strength. AT&T's network I find is much stronger for signal and speed in S. Florida.
HTC Touch Pro 2 though seems pretty bad a$$...too bad AT&T didn't get it ...cause now I had to get an iPhone
The color looks a lot better in person. Trust me, it looks 20 times better than the Sprint version which has a hideous looking battery cover and a maroon colored keyboard. Windows 6.5 comes out in October and will make the TP2 that much better.
Why does T-Mobile insist on taking a long awaited device and put it out in the ugliest color it can find? Surely they had to do some market testing somewhere! I have been waiting for this phone for months! Now I'm looking at this mocha crappola thing and it has really dampened my spirits. I may just go buy the new Android phone instead. I will hold off making a decision until I get to see it in person but can somebody please reassure me that T-Mobile will release it in another color at least a month from now?
Is there any chance that it still might come out in this color?
