Samsung i5700 "Galaxy-lite" gets WiFi approval -- Android on the cheap?
We can say with some confidence now that HTC's planning on taking Android to a new, mega-cheap market with the upcoming Click -- and as the old saying goes, when it rains, it pours. Samsung -- which also looks to be making an Android push, hot off the launch of its inaugural i7500 Galaxy -- has just garnered WiFi certification for a heretofore-unknown i5700 "Galaxy-lite," which certainly has all the makings of a stripped-down Galaxy from its model name and number. We know precisely zlich about what the i5700 actually entails, but we're encouraged by the fact that they managed to leave WiFi in; question is, what features of the Galaxy would we be okay to see go on a lower-cost model? AMOLED? The high-spec camera? Awesomeness? [Warning: PDF link]

This is horrendous. If google allows this to happen were going to see the demise of Android.
This is EXACTLY why Windows Mobile failed. WinMo,which in reality is an EXCELLENT mobile OS, allowed its OS to be placed on sub par processors with not nearly enough memory to handle its tasks. What resulted was a bogged down that constantly crashed and .... barely worked as a phone.
Im on my G1 with a 528 Mgz processor and 192 MB RAM and my phones needs to be rebooted every day to free up memory.
Now you're gonna let this OS on tin boxes? You're gonna give Android a horrible reputation Google. For the sake of the future of mobile OS's don't allow this to happen. In fact... the opposite should be done.... a rule should exist to protect the brand AND consumers.
If the power is not enough to run the phone.... you cant use our OS. If anyone can force vendors/manufacturers to start respecting the consumer its Google.
Windows Mobile is "excellent"???? LMAO! Microsoft have been "developing" their mobile OS for YEARS, and what do we have today? Something that looks, feels and behaves identically to the piece of junk that HP sold me 6 years ago. After all that time, they still haven't even managed to integrate it properly with their own desktop software! "Development" over that time has actually meant "bug fixing", and they've still got a long way to go. Microsoft had their chance, now it's time for them to go back to selling mickey-mouse home computers to people who don't know any better.
Really? Do you know what processor they are using? How can you start this rant if you don't know the specs of the phone? Just cause it may be a lite version doesn't mean that the processor and memory will suffer. It could be lite due to the size, display, and camera.
As much as I am a "have and not need than need and not have" type of person, I could do with out the GPS, if that makes it any cheaper. I have a Auto GPS and Google maps works just fine for what I need it for. So yeah, if taking it out means it will be way cheaper, I'm all for it.
