HTC Rhodium spotted in Sprint "compatible phone" list, Touch Pro2 definitely maybe imminent
While AT&T, Telus and Verizon Wireless customers have long since known that HTC's luscious Touch Pro2 was heading their way, fans of Dan Hesse have been twiddling their thumbs wondering if said handset would ever cruise along at Sprint Speed™. We wouldn't call this anything close to official confirmation, but an official Sprint portal for the outfit's NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile application definitely lists the HTC Rhodium as a "compatible phone" that supports full audio and video content. For those unaware, "Rhodium" is just another way of uttering "Touch Pro2." Don't get your hopes too high, but feel free to have a stiff drink on us.

Soon, my precious...Soon... This should be dropping any day now mostly likely right after T-Mobile launches their version on 8/12. In my opinion, you can count on the Sprint version to be the better of the bunch. This has historically been the case with most all of HTC's device portfolio on Sprint. Uncrippled processor speed and RAM. I've had the HTC Touch Pro since it came out and I'm ultra-excited about this one. "I can feel it coming in the air tonight...hold on." Man, that's never been more true!
I agree about Sprint and the HTC phones. I've still got my HTC Mogul and the only reason I'm anxiously awaiting the TP2 are some of the tweaks. I wish there was a way to do internal upgrades to phones the way we can computers (like RAM). If we could, I probably wouldn't even consider switching from my Mogul, especially since I've got all the third party apps like the full screen photo caller ID, slide to unlock, Dr. Who screensaver, etc. just how I like them. About the only thing that'll keep me from snagging a Rhodium / TP2 the second it hits my local Sprint store is a fit of laziness, not wanting to hassle with setting it up! ;-P
Keep the screws to them Darren. Shall we call it the 'engadged effect'? Keep hounding companies to keep them from stalling phone releases.
Verizon's TP and TD prices just dropped, so I imagine they'll be dropping their phone pretty soon too.
What if Sprint actually marketed (not that they'll market it at all) it as the HTC Rhodium instead of the Touch Pro2. I just think that would be hilarious. "What phone do you have?" ---> "Oh, the Rhodium." ----> "What the f**k is a Rhodium?" ---> "Oh, it's a silvery-white metallic element of the platinum family."
Where have you been each carrier has a few versions and different name for it, sprints is Rhodium
LOL
Sprint's own hard numbers they claim during their tv ads 3 million on everything plans meanwhile the other 46 million on Legacy plans are prevented from activating a Palm Pre on their Legacy plan, smart move Sprint disenfranchise a vast majority of your loyal customers. And read Sprints's VP of strategy on how Sprint plans to leverage and slowly force people off Legacy plans by offering them fewer and fewer phones only "dumb phones" and he thinks all future smartphones will require Everyhing plans.
This 2 pronged strategy of destroying the reputation with customers most of their customers. Plus changing the rules of the game mid stream, sure sign up for our plans oh guess what that plan is not good enough for our cool phones, you need a new plan which cost more. Who thinks down the line in 2 years Sprint will pull the same thing and now the Palm Pre 2 can not be activated on the Everything plans but needs a new Elite Plan.
This will back fire and blow up in Sprint's faces when shareholders find out this is Dan's plan for success.
Touch Pro 2 will be treated just like the Palm Pre, No Legacy plans only Everything plans if you are on SERO thinking you will get this activated on SERO, try smoking less crack. same will be done for the Android phone and future smartphone son Sprint
Did the HTC Touch Pro & Diamond require an 'Everything Plan'? No.
Did the Instinct & Palm Pre require an 'Everything Plan'? No.
Is the Rhodium exactly like the Touch Pro & Diamond? Yes.
Is the Rhodium exactly like the Instinct & Pre where their OS is built around the web & are Sprint's device-of-the-year? NO.
The HTC Touch Pro2 (Rhodium) will not require an 'Everything Plan'. Period. The trend seems to be that Sprint only implements an Everything Plan on devices that are exclusive & Sprint's phone of the year. The Pre already came this year & the Rhodium is nowhere near exclusive. Rhodium isn't going to be a "big" phone, us tech-savvy readers are probably the only ones that know about it. I wonder how many people still don't know about the original Diamond & Pro. Things that make you say "hmmmmm..."
LOGIC.
Come September 6th & I can't activate the Pro2 on my SERO, feel free to bash me. I don't care.
Yes, the Instinct & Palm Pre required the plan. My error.
3 million people own phones that need all in data plans.
I don't think there is a legacy plan that you can add data and be cheaper than the 450 min everything plan for 69.99
Thats a lie about the pre!!! I was going to buy a pre until I asked about HTC and the rep said they were pulling them out of stock and pro2 was due in Sept. before all that My pre was good to go, I didnt need a elite plan!!!!!
I seriously doubt the HTC Touch Pro 2 will require a certain plan. This isn't a phone that is going to be released with any fanfare other than to the geeks and business users that want it. Also every other carrier is going to have the same phone that can probably be activated on any plan, so why would Sprint make themselves less competitive by requiring a certain plan.
Just release the phone already...
The longer they wait, the longer it'll be till their first
engineering update which is when I typically buy. And in the case of
TP2, prolly won't buy till after it ships with WM6.5. Cmas ???
Touch Pro 2 is coming to Sprint in September, just confirmed from a sprint store rep. They have stopped selling the TP1 for anticipation for the TP2. When asked about the response from customers who just signed a two year contract to acquire the TP1 last year, they said "I guess they're gonna be pretty angry..."
They guess....
I just got my TP1 on a Simply Everything plan last december and a rep told me I was already eligible for an upgrade
