Verizon-branded Touch Pro2 plays 'spot the difference' with previous spy shot
It's been some time since we last spotted HTC's Touch Pro2 in the wild with a Verizon tattoo, and yet, there's a tinge of unfamiliarity with these new shots. For whatever reason, on this model the HTC logo has been banished to the opposite reaches of the front display, whereas previously it was fit to share space right next to the Verizon logo / check mark. Everything else seems to be identical, however, including any indication of when and for how much we'll be able to pick one up ourselves. Hey VZW, how's that fire sale of the original Touch Pro coming along?
Update: As a good number of readers have pointed out, there's now also video of the phone, with 3.5mm headphone jack to boot. See it after the break.
[Thanks, ckeegan]

This phone looks like maybe I should give WinMo another chance...? We'll see what the specs are..
August 27th is the current rumored release date, which could make for another BB Tour situation. You know, when Sprint announces their release date, Verizon announces theirs which is a week earlier, and then Sprint says, "Oh, that's the date we meant to say."
if i recall that isn't what happens with most launches just the tour. remember when sprint released the curve before verizon
I agree with stiltslin, not only the curve, but the touch pro, diamond and the snap
thanks for making my decision difficult. now i have to weigh this option when i go get a new phone in a couple months. :( i was so set on the envtouch, but this looks quite good.
NOW WITH VIDEO! 3.5mm jack confirmed, and no Sprint holes, but what looks like a world map on the back. Info has been flowing the last 24 hours. Now if we could just get a confirmed release date.
Oh yeah, and someone over at wmexperts commented with, "Just an FYI. The RAM is NOT crippled."

As stated, the RAM is not crippled this go round. GPS unlocked out of the box. 3.5mm headphone jack. The device is slick, I've used the version pictured above. Look for it around 9/1/09. Retail launch will likely be later.
wait I don't get it, look for it 9/1 but retail launch will be later? What does that mean?
got it, never mind... didnt know they released online before in store, cool!
Lucky Verizon bastards get the classy original design in black/graphite, plus a 3.5mm jack, while T-Mobile users get stuck with a "bronze" finish and no regular headphone jack...UGH!
but it looks like they'll have bragging rights about having the device first...something that will last about 15 days until the next launch and while the rest of us wait for Sprint/Verizon/AT&T to release the phone. I'm happy to trade a 15 day not-first-on-the-block for the 3.5mm headphone jack!
anyone got a video of the Sprint version? Other than the pics leaked back on May 19, I've not seen any other shots of it in the wild...
Looks like they did away with the "faux speaker grille" on the back too. Hmmmm? I think I liked it, but the phone is still great. If it's actually september 1st, then I can't wait. But until I see some actual confirmation of this, I'm not holding my breath. It is "take forever" to do anything Verizon after all.
Well, we've seen two different users with the device in the past 24 hours, which means that the reports of demo units going to corp customers last week was correct. In the past, this has ALWAYS happened within 45 days of official launch (XV6700, XV6800, and Touch Pro). So, beginning of September is completely feasible for online/telesales, with in-store launching approximately 2 weeks later.
I'm a corp customer with a demo unit from VZW, and I confirm that this model is awesome. Been using it since July 30. Best unit HTC has put out to date.
Did Verizon manage to cripple this device to in any way?
I wonder how this compares to the new Sammy's Rogue or the Omnia II, Pro ??????? I have heard horror stories about the 1st generation of HTC's Touch & Diamond ...... any opinions ??
i hope verz. don't jack up the price on the HTC like they did with the 1st Touch & Diam. ..... who wants to pay like $350 for a phone !!!!!!!
@ Dude: Any reliable clue when the rest of us will be getting it? Rumor has it 8/27 or 9/1. Anything you'd care to share on that?
@ mike: Uh, the XV6700 and XV6800 each cost me $300-350 at release (after NE2, and 2 year agreement). I have no problem paying $350 for the TP2, but then again, I am the type of customer this device is intended for.
The longer this device take to launch, the more outdated it looks. Especially with all these ugly carrier customizations.
So, you would have prefered the version without the 3.5mm jack, because I think that was worth the wait.
@ckeegan - The 3.5mm jack is a welcome change, but who needs a picture of the world map on the back of the phone. Isn't there a map software built in. Furthermore, this device should have been launched months ago. There isn't anything ground breaking about this device, that would warrant all these lengthy delays.
Yeah. On first glance...I thought the back of the phone had paint chipping off.
I would definitely chalk up the jack to more of a delay than anything having to do with the world map. Plus, I don't think it's their for reference.
All in all, the only delays there have been are in people's heads. The original Touch Pro hasn't been out that long, and those upgrading from the XV6800 are only now becoming eligible for NE2, and that's if you bought it right when it came out. So, no delays, just impatience. Don't get me wrong though, I want it now too, but if it came out last month, I still probably would have waited until this month to save $100.
@Nav - Who is to say that the picture of the world map wasn't already there in the first place? No pictures were leaked of the first verizon demo TP2
The back of it I mean
wow, i wonder if the guy who posted the picture realized you can almost make out his face , and the ugly carpet is just another way for him to be identified, hope you have a backup employement plan in the works.
I thought the same thing the night the video came out.
Yeah; it should have been launched months ago. Because so many North American carriers have it right now.
I new verizon would strip it of something, looks like they removed the speakerphone and prolly the conference call capabilities just like they removed the inner circle feature from the Ozone! bastards!
Yeah, I'm sure they removed StraightTalk, since it's HTC's biggest marketing point for this device. Unless you were being sarcastic, do you even know what you're talking about? The mute button for the speakerphone is right on the back of the phone in the video.
Well, it appears Verizon didn't cripple it! And that is good news.
