Sprint's developer site reveals Touch Pro2's innermost secrets
We've seen enough dead-to-rights evidence at this point to say that the Touch Pro2 is Sprint-bound, barring some sort of bizarre, unforeseen series of events leading to... oh, say, Sprint's acquisition by Nokia in the next few weeks. That would be odd, wouldn't it? Anyhow, the latest piece of irrefutable proof comes courtesy of Sprint itself, which has now listed the Touch Pro2 -- along with all of its specs -- on the carrier's developer site. There's nothing ground-breaking here -- we've got the usual 3.2 megapixel cam and WVGA display -- though we're saddened to see no mention of the all-important 3.5mm jack. Not every spec is listed here, of course, but we'd be feeling better about the situation if we saw it here.

Doesn't it say it's international quad band right there?
It says right on the picture "International Quadband".......
Whoops! Seriously not sure how I missed that. Fixed!
if it doesnt have GSM roaming then what does " International Quadband" mean hmmm?
>> Quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz for international roaming
sounds to me it does have international capabilities
Why is everybody concerned with the 3.5 mm jack. Are you the same people who wear fanny packs?!??! Get a stereo bluetooth headset. They are more stylish, don't get in the way, and there is no wire to go bad in 95 days.
My truck's radio has a 3.5mm aux port which is great for using the phone to play mp3s, pandora, decent audio for sprint nav and hands free communication over the vehicles speakers. It's nice not to have to purchase an extra adapter to leave in the vehicle and one for use other places.
i guess...but you are in the minority. Most people who listen to music on their phones do only that. Plus, if they are savvy enough to know how to get their music to work, on a WinMo phone, know they should know that bluetooth stereo is the best.
Umm...I think most people enjoy the fact that you can buy corded headphones for like $10 or less as opposed to paying $50+ for bluetooth headphones. Also with the popularity of MP3 players...I think most people now a days know how to use the AUX port in their cars. Especially if they're putting music on their phone.
yeah...but my point is that for the average nerd Engadget user, the $10 headsets work, because 1.) you listen to weak beats, so it doesn't matter how it comes out 2.) they have no problem going back to a store, complaining about static, or intermittent sound, after 3 months (because the planned obsolescence of the headsets are 3 months, like their warranties) only to get the same shitty headset. 3.) it looks like crap (wires suck) 4.) You can walk into a Verizon and get a pair of BT Headsets for 34.99 with no discount, and that's Verizon...I can only imagine what other deals on headsets are out there. Ummmmmm...ur beat
Wizzy,
I'm sorry to call you out, but you are completely wrong. Yes, I've seen some people not care about a 3.5mm jack, but the large majority of people want it. That's why HTC actually redesigned this unit after it was far enough down the line to have the first production units not have it. That is really saying something as that isn't a small investment.
Though I can't say for sure, my impression has been that the demand is there from the majority of the people who use this phone. Why? It just makes life a LOT easier.
Bluetooth audio sounds like ass.
I understand why they put it back in...when I say that the first guy was in the minority, I meant that most people don't care about the jack, or don't care about listening to music on their phone. If they do, they know their options. These jacks have cost carriers a bunch because of how defective they become. One defective jack, gotta replace the whole phone, under warranty. That's not making life easier... Plus, out of the thousands of phones sold by my salespeople, less than 1% of customers care about this feature. We had to replace a ton of 7250 BB's because of this jack. Just like infrared, the jack needs to go. The other thing is that chicks don't dig guys who buy 10 dollar headsets. They like guys who buy the BT headsets, who don't know how to pair them, and drive fast, and use cuss words. Ur beat, too.
i have the motorola rokr s9hd bluetooth headphones. they are completely worthless outdoors (at least when paired with a titan), uncomfortable, difficult to wear with sunglasses and have mediocre battery life. i'll take a 3.5 mm jack.
s9hd's were garbage from day one. S305's are the nuts.
I might be in the minority here, but anyone who claims to have "salespeople" shouldn't be using "ur beat" and saying things are "the nuts." Since when did "wanna be hard white boys" make it up the sales ladder to be managers? Those are the exact type of salesmen that turn me off and make me leave a store without ever going back.
3.5mm jacks kick ass, i don't care if they fail at a higher rate. It is very simple technology that if a handset maker cant secure it in the case, or solder it in place correctly they should have to replace it. The customers always right, if we want it we should get it. Its our money that we're giving over. Your business depends on us. If it was up to sleazy sales people we'd all be paying $500($100 device cost, $400 commission) to buy Razrs still.
Either way, bring on the 3.5mm jacks, leave behind 2.5mm jacks, and someone replace Junior Wheezy(cough) as a Sales Manager I'm looking to buy my next phone.
Lol...we need to have a beer summit, because I'm not white. Two, I am also not a sales manager...I own a cell phone component distribution warehouse, in Vegas. Three, my salespeople who do sell phones are as good as it gets. Four, you started a sentence with a number (3.5) and nowhere in the sentence did you mention that the reason you like the jack is because any phone with a 3.5 mm jack doubles as your girlfriend. Five, my salespeople are the best in the business and they qualify people for phones like the TP2 by figuring their server needs, software needs, etc., and if the customer balks at a deal because of a 3.5 mm jack, our response will be:
Mr. Doax, put down the Star Wars action figure and come out of your mom's basement. Tradition is the albatross around the neck of progress. Get over the 3.5 mm jack, and worry about the 85 other features that make this a great phone.
Six, you guys need a sense of humor...
A2DP sound quality is shit... lol
sort of like your assertion. Any person with semi functioning ear drums would take 3.5mm over Bluetooth Headphones any day of the week.
Trust us wizzy. You are in the minority that you think nobody wants 3.5mm audio jacks on their phones. First off most avg consumers don't even know bluetooth audio is possible. Once they found out they would definitely think it's cool, but after dealing with having to remember to charge their earbuds all the time, the lower quality sound they're getting compared to the nice pair of earbuds they probably already have for their MP3 player, and other short comings with blue tooth audio, they'll probably be happy to know that their shiny new TP2 has a good ol' 3.5mm jack to fall back on.
Not entirely true- although I agree that stereo bluetooth is extremely useful in most situations, there are many times I find myself annoyed that I don't have the standard stereo jack.
Since PDAs have always been my primary music players (dating back to the iPaq), when HTC dropped even the semi-standard 2.5mm jacks, I was forced to become a bluetooth stereo buff- I now own 3 A2DP compatible stereo headsets, and have Sony BT2500 stereo bluetooth receivers in both my car and my wife's car. I even put a receiver on my home stereo (an i-tech R35 headset clip that has a 3.5mm output) so I would always be free of wires. But you know what? I'm still jealous of the standard 3.5mm jack that iPhone and BlackBerry users have been enjoying from day one.
Why?
For starters, it sucks more battery power and I have yet more devices to plug in and keep charged (the i-tech on my home stereo has to be unplugged and charged, then put back- a royal pain to remember). Add to that the fact that they are bulkier and more annoying to carry around in addition to your phone, and you usually can't do things like split the signal to two headsets so you can watch a movie on the plane with someone else- oh, yeah, and airplanes in general are a no-no because of their rules banning anything using wireless signals. There have also been plenty of times that I wanted to go plug my phone into someone's speakers so that they could hear a song, but of course that's also impossible (unless I carry the R-35s with me, which goes back to the whole carry-around-another-bulky-item-that-needs-to-be-charged dillema).
Do I love having A2DP? HECK YAH- in my car, the head units are indespensible, and sound fantastic- all without taking my phone out of my pocket. But do I still long for a standard 3.5mm plug? You betcha. This had better have one, or else that upcoming Android handset is looking all that much sweeter...
It's a complete shame HTC decided to gimp the Touch Pro2. I can understand the logic of it being a business-centric device, but these all-in-ones are usually the most expensive of the line-up. And yet, the Touch Diamond2 is running with a camera sensor that not only delivers more MP's but also far better photo quality, from the reviews I have read. For less.
So it really comes down to form loyalty, when the features are obviously more advanced on its touch-screen variant. However, the Samsung Omnia Pro is basically a chunkier version of the Omnia II, with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a button to switch between the business and home modes.
I still prefer the i8910 with S60 5th, but, personally, 800MHZ, form-not-function variation, and 1500mAh kind of make it easy to choose an Omnia over a Touch.
looks like the Sprint & Verizon version will have the 3.5mm, but no love for T-Mobile
