Carphone Warehouse gets UK exclusive on Nokia 5530 XpressMusic next week
If you're looking for the cheapest possible way to get in on this S60 5th Edition craze that's sweeping the globe, you've probably got a keen eye on Nokia's 5530 -- a phone that strangely looks much nicer than its pricier, more full-featured 5800 big brother -- and if you're in the UK, you won't be waiting much longer. Mobile Today is reporting that Carphone Warhouse has nabbed itself a nice little six-week British exclusive on the phone starting August 11, running a totally palatable £130 (about $218) on a pay-as-you-go deal. We'd have a hard time adapting to EDGE, but who knows -- if you've got enough open WiFi networks in your daily route, maybe it's doable.

One more thing...........FIRST!!!!!!!!!
Bitch
Buy a real phone? You mean a certain Cupertino phone that can't even run multiple applications at the same time, support flash video in the browser, or have any apps installed without the approval of your Apple overlords?
Not to mention that you're not even buying it. You're getting a subsidy on it's real purchase price in exchance for a two year contract on a calling plan with a mandatory $30 a month data plan on top of that.
Even really OWNED your own phone where you could use it on what carrier you wanted and on what data plans you wanted? I guess not..... Bitch.
Paul A. Chapel is a Bitch. Hey Paul, Steve-Oh Jobs told you to go jump off a bridge.....so go do it already, and DIE BITCH! Im so sick of iPhone users and their tiny little sheep brains. I want to bitch slap the next person I see with one.
Sing it from the mountain tops, ThisGuy.
I don't know how these ignorant iPhone bitches walk around with the same "smart" phone that your average dumb ass Middle School Girl and geriatric grand mom uses and still think their using the latest and greatest.
Mass market in the USA is synonymous with the dumb masses...
I remember the good old days when 3g/HSDPA wasn't considered important, when touchscreen phones with wi-fi and Edge were considered the second coming.
I think Nokia has launched this phone to give competition to LG Cookie and other Samsung lower end touch models.
However it has far more superior specs than most of them. It should be successful. It would be better for Nokia, if they
launch this phone in US with carrier subsidy. (though chances seem to be less). The best we can expect here is an unlocked one, which won't be too bad still.
I am wondering, why did Engadget not post this article on their main engadget site? They post every damn new phone from HTC, or any other manufacturer on the main site, but why not this one?
We posted the 5530's announcement on Engadget. Keep in mind that this is a mobile enthusiasts' site -- we can't post everything here on Engadget proper. That would defeat the purpose.
I can agree with you if it was consistent. I have seen almost every HTC and Samsung or Apple related news on the main site
along with mobile site(if not alone). Then why Nokia news not on the main site and only on the mobile site? Makes me wonder!!
Btw, i guess you said, you now posted on the main site, but i dont see anywhere on the main site. Search also doesn't show anything?

Thanks, but thats the old post. I meant this particular post being omitted from the main site. But anyways,
its upto engadget what they want to selectively post. I was just pointing out that with HTC, there is no selective post
with Nokia, this is an example of selective post.
Nevermind!!
5530 is much better in looks than 5800 and the kinetic scrolling feature is freaking awesome. Thanks Nokia for providing such an awesome smartphone at such an affordable price. It is set for release in UK on August 11 but I’m waiting for its launch in India.
Check this video to see the kinetic scrolling feature

But then if it's anything like the kinetic scrolling that's been added to the 5800 in a recent software update, it only works on certain menus and other menus still use a different way of scrolling, making the UI even more of a mixed bag than it was before.
@Iain,
Which world r u leaving in? So far the firmware which has kinetic scrolling has not been released
for 5800. It is rumored, it will have KS in contacts homescreen and mostly in browser.
That is enough for us who have 5800. Even if its a mixed bag, we like the bag ;)
as soon as this hits (ok, maybe ill accept very shortly after) i expect a firmware update to make the supposedly superior 5800 have the new software features of the 5530. just look at that beautiful home screen alone. i swear, if the 5800 (that i paid twice as much as a 5530 for) doesnt get that home screen soon, i am so done with nokia. i already have my eyes seriously focused on the bl40 as it is.
