WinMo 6.5 build 23022 caught on video, in all its finger-friendly glory

It's been a hot minute since we first laid eyes on those WinMo screen grabs featuring big ol' buttons at the bottom of the display -- signaling, we hoped, an all-around effort to minimize stylus use in the mobile OS -- and now we have a video for you that seems to further make the case. While WinMo 6.5 build 23022 is still pretty clumsy, those finger-friendly (well, at least, "finger-friendlier," or maybe "not as finger-hostile") buttons grace the bottom of the display, and there is an iPhone-esque magnifying glass option for zooming in on and editing text. Technical details for this build are available at the read link -- but first, make sure you peep the thing in action at the break.

That's definitely a good step in the right direction. It kills me when I try to press on the X to close a program, and I get clock popups up!
This'll definitely help. Although it will take quite an adjustment to close/minimize programs on the bottom left as opposed to the top right...
This is coming along very nicely. Can't wait to see the final build.
If they can release this fast enough, and its well optimized (better then current builds), and fairly bug free, they MAY just have a fighting chance in till WinMo 7 comes out.
I guess there is no hope of multitouch in winmo 6.5.1 or 6.7 or w/e its going to be called?
youtube :(
another step in the right direction for Windows Mobile
I'm shocked. Half a dozen comments already and no one is slagging off Microsoft and saying fail! Whats going on here??
Seriously though, this definitely is a step in the right direction. MS just need to be careful there steps aren't too small otherwise our good friends Android, Apple OS, Symbian and Web OS will pass them by.
I really hope that a second team are seriously working on WinMo 7 right now, rather than waiting for 6.5 to launch. Otherwise its going to be a looooong time until we see 7. Releasing a killer new mobile OS before the end of 2010 would be a serious game changer for MS.
I believe thats because this is EngadgetMobile and not vanilla Engadget...I wouldn't even dare to look over there.
I have a Blackberry Tour that I just switched to from a Samsung Ace with WM 6.1 ... and cant say how annoyed I am that a supposedly superior device in the BB, doest have fundamental functions I had in WM. Like When I type a phone number, shouldnt the contact pull up too or does it have to be the name typed to pull up. Also when type a number or name, shouldnt it show the most recent calls for that person like in WM (just shows contact)? SMS text is awful and not threaded and doesnt alow for reply on a message that you have already replied to. (I like the FB, gmail and other apps in general on the BB and the email management. The OS seems less buddy and solid and not temperamental but seriously, that stuff is standard stuff!)
Anyone else feel the same?
