Samsung Instinct S50 now reportedly the Instinct HD, 'HD' officially the new black
It's already gone through more than its share of name changes, but it looks like Sprint's upcoming Samsung m850 Dash, most recently known as the Instinct S50, has now apparently found one that's stuck: the Instinct HD. No word if that means it'll actually handle HD video in one way or another, of course, nor is there any word on anything like a price or release date -- although with the FCC business out of the way, it seems like this one could be getting fully official sooner rather than later.

Oh, Samsung... The original Instict was a good idea: less money than an iPhone, included two batteries, and a cheaper plan. Now, with devices like the Omnia Pro, Touch Pro2, $99 iPhone among many, many others, I fail to see this capturing much of the market. Still, competition is good I suppose.
Zune HD= Awesome
HTC Touch HD= Awesome
Samsung Instinct HD= Eh?
Now if it was only running Android we'd be all set. Guess we'll have to wait 'till Oct. 11th for the goods.
Maybe if you guys actually read the tips that were emailed to you, you would know more about this phone
Engadget doesnt read anything unless its about AT&T or Apple. Sad, that they LOVE the worst network in America.
Jeff, AT&T has the best coverage in my area. Everywhere is different.
I would assume EngadgetMobile takes responsibility before posting things that aren't confirmed, from readers.
Update: They just put a watch with a RIM logo on their front page (leading readers with no reading comprehension to believe it is a real accessory), along with an article filled with wild speculation. No responsibility there.
I was going to say, it doesn't surprise me that they changed the name to Instinct HD. Cus over a month ago it was made obvious in the high rez Zagg pic, then confirmed by World1-1 that the "Instinct 2" has hdmi out on the right side. The high rez pic has a hatch that says VIDEO on it. World1-1 says he has an HD option in video record mode. But so little love has been paid to this phone thru all mobile news sites that no one talked about it. I'm still excited, and I'm still looking forward to the BREW OS.
ill wait for the instinct q
man your life must be pathetic to cyber stalk a mistaken idenity.. its like the return of that fag back beater.. well hope you get a life soon.. or a job.. or a girlfriend..
I was beginning to miss beatoff on bgr, looks like a new identity was created and he's played detective too. Your sentiments were read the 1st couple times you posted while insulting a slew of posters ASS-U-ME-D to be me and who is Blaine?
your so dam ignorant your calling me witherspoon and gaffinent.. Hmm if my last name is gaffin how the hell can it be somthing else too.. seriously go bug don louie or blaine.. cuz i dont know who the fuck none of you are and i dont kno what kinda wierd shit you guys are up to
Anyone shed more light on features? Better Camera? HD means... WVGA screen or... HDMI out? I'm really stoked about this. I think it's unfair to compare a feature phone to WinMo. For starters TP2 is gonna be way more expensive, and also WinMo doesn't appeal to people in the fam who like it simple. iPhone/ATT is just ridiculously overpriced in terms of service so... looking to pick this up (instead of the S50) and a TPII for myself.
ANOTHER version of the Instinct? Didnt the last one come out less then 6 months ago?
Facts on Instinct
1st Gen had 2 batteries, battery case, and stylus and leather protector case and EVDO REV. A!!! $129.99
2nd Gen was missing EVERYTHING from above, but somehow cost the same at $129.99
3rd Gen looks the same, different color, and will be missing all the above as well but this time with EVDO REV A. likely for same price...
Im sorry, but to me... with the software remaining the same, and Opera being able to download into the Instinct 1st Gen rather then be the default browser, I fail to see why anyone would want anything BUT the 1st Gen model? It had the most for it, for the same price. Rounded corners are not worth my missing out my 2nd battery and battery case, and stylus!
i guess he thinks everyone who doesnt like the iphone and likes sprint is the same person.. but engadget is deleting all of the idiots comments so thats good
Buddy changed his name but is still at it in the new iphone subs vs. Pre subs satisfaction. Neither I or his targets even posted there but the troll is still calling people out, Blaine Witherspoon is a decent name though
I had the S30 and it was honestly one of my favorite phones. It did almost everything I needed but the software keyboard on a resistive screen was a pain in the ass much of the time. I switched over to the Palm Pre for the capacitive screen and keyboard. If the S50 / Instinct S50 has a capacitive screen with a browser that fully renders HTML pages, I will probably drop the Pre and go back to Samsung.
I purchased the Instinct HD on Sunday when they came out at Best Buy. I'd been looking forward to its release with anticipation. Unfortunately I've run into a couple of problems which it I think should be shared.
1) It froze up each time I attempted to enter my area code for the Sprint Family Locator application. Had to remove the battery each time to unfreeze.
2) Today I sent a TEXT msg to one individual and it also ended up going to an additional 2 contacts in my contacts. (imagine the embarasment if I would have said something I should not have said)
I'm trying to be patient and work through these glitches but think I'll be returning it soon. It's a phone that I had very high hopes for as the first 2 versions seemed to receive very good reviews from their owners. I'm curious to hear from other owners of the HD and see what if any problems they may have run into.
