Studies just released by RBC Capital and ChangeWave Research polled
iPhone 3GS and
Palm Pre owners on their respective levels of satisfaction with their devices -- then compared them. In the studies, 200 iPhone 3GS users and 40 Palm Pre owners were polled. Overall, 99 percent of Apple's phone proclaimed themselves to be "satisfied," while 82 percent of that number declared they were "very satisfied." The poll of Pre owners showed that 87 percent are "satisfied," and 42 percent of those owners describe themselves as "very satisfied." Interestingly, the 42 percent of "very satisfied" customers are the highest score ever attained by a Palm device, and it's a number that's only ever been bested by RIM and Apple. When asked about their respective reasons for buying their devices, Palm Pre owners listed the touchscreen interface, ability to multitask, and ease of use in the top three, while iPhone users cite its touchscreen, ease of use and faster web browsing as its biggest draws. So what about drawbacks? iPhone users (a whopping 55 percent of them, in fact) say that AT&T's network is their main gripe with the device, while Pre owners list short battery life and lack of third party apps as the devices biggest drawbacks. All in all, a pretty good showing for both -- though the microscopic sample size (especially for the Palm Pre) makes us wonder about the validity of the findings a bit.

I would say I am VERY satisfied with my Palm Pre! My biggest gripe is probably battery life as well...although its not bad if I charge it every night. They should have taken an equal sampling of people for each device, not 200 for the iPhone, and only 40 for the Pre. And a larger sample size of people.
Iphone has a lot less tech savvy customers. Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone but in terms of voice quality, it does perform poorly. My guess is that a lot of people who bought the iphone were not ex smartphone users, therefore, many of them are wooed by the smartphone concept in itself. In particular, those who have migrated from a basic flip phone.
The Pre is a love-it-or-hate-it type of device. The iPhone is pretty much a "this is teh best and nothing will ever beat it!!!ONE" device (through the eyes of the respective owners).
Personally, I don't think I could ever buy a device that 82% of owners love. In order to reach that level of acceptance, you have to make compromises that appeal to the average consumer, making it less appealing to the tech-savvy market.
I do not and have never owned either an iPhone or a Pre, but I would take the Pre over the iPhone any day.
Iphone's weakness is being restricted to AT&T. Then again, apple customer's don't have a problem with that. Now if MS had the same philosophy towards their products and OS, people would cry murder.
What a TERRIBLE poll, lol. First, the sample size is a joke. Typically a good poll uses 800-1,000 people. Second, the compared phones don't use an equal sample number.
Even if we took these 'polls' at their word I'd be happier with a phone that has a lower battery life than one with a sub-par network. I mean, you use a phone to talk, right?
After getting my Palm Pre, I don't even look at other phones. I could not say the same about all of the Blackberries, Nokias, and iPhones I have used.
Thank you Palm!
You can't compare something brand new to something that has been in service already. Also the 3GS is the 2nd generation for the Iphone and the Pre is still on the 1st Generation. If they could poll the results from when the Ipod just started how much bugs and development needed. Gotta compare 1st to 1st to see how much difference and beneficials of the tech inside. Also they should state negative to postive points to conquer main points of what is consider good of these two phones. For Me they both are awesome...they got their goods and bads.....talk about size wise...the Iphone Hands Down, and traveling with a phone I would choose Palm Pre. But if you talk about apps the iphone hands up.
Thanks For Both Companis APPLE & PALM
Actually the 3Gs is the third iPhone. So it's comparing 3rd generation to 1st generation. When CNET did their comparison they came up even in score. Pretty impressive for a first gen to go toe-to-toe with a third gen
what a joke ...this should have never been posted.....nice sample size....200 vs 40 .......post a real survey with a real sample volume!
This just in: 99% of Scientologists "very satisfied" w/ their faith
I would say that Apple users are a pretty mindlessly self-satisfied group of people, so I am not surprised that 82% of them are so impressed they did such a good job making such a great purchase. It's a brave new world amongst those Apple people.
You guys forgot one thing! Those Palm Pre people used to work for Apple! Gorilla see, monkey do! It's really crazy when the Palm Pre is on iTunes, It comes across as a iPod! "Imitation is the best form of flattery" (Here it comes!)
