Samsung InstinctQ for Sprint pictured: imagine a G1, but better
Going off mere clues, hypotheses and shreds of evidence, we've been trying to wrap our brains around the InstinctQ for a while now -- and finally we've got a picture that firms everything up: it's definitely an Android-powered landscape QWERTY slider for Sprint. We know the Hero's in the pipeline, too, so between these two, Sprint could be poised to catch up to T-Mobile in a big, big way (as far as Android goes, anyhow) this fall. We think we're digging the touch-sensitive Home, Menu, and Back buttons, and the expansive keyboard looks plenty usable. The screen isn't looking quite as vibrant as its autobahn-driving European cousin, the Galaxy -- but we'll wait on passing final judgment until it's in our hands, of course. Any chance that's happening soon?

Ugh, WHYWHYWHY do they have to put the spacebard in the middle of the bottom row like that? I had an i760 like that and it drove me back to my Treo, because I couldn't get used to touch-typing on the thing. G1 still has better keyboard layout while this goes on.
AGREE!!!!! NEXT! It's hard to get used to that layout and it makes it look like a teenager's qwerty dumbphone...I want my smartphone to actually look like a smartphone.
But....congrats to Sprint for Android and finally showing some proof.
Completely agree, it's really hard to touch type properly on a keyboard like this - I would personally do away with the dedicated number keys, I just don't see them being that necessary.
Agreed- that does appear to be teh suck.
UGLY!
I also agree with everyone who posted. It looks like a teenager-centric phone than anything that resembles a smartphone, much less, an android smartphone. Oh well. I'll stick with my Pre.
Chris says : Sprint could be poised to catch up to T-Mobile in a big, big way (as far as Android goes, anyhow) this fall
Dude come on. T-Mobile has few more android phone in the pipeline. Motorola Morrison, Samsung Galaxy and Bigfoot, Huawei and at least one more HTC Android phone. On top of that they have My Touch How are they ( Sprint ) poised to catch up to T-Mobile as far as Andoid goes is very mysterious.
Chris is "motivated" to spew the Sprint 'Gospel'.
I saw this phone and handled it at our Sprint Expert Training last tuesday. The flash from that camera does no justice to the screen, if I didn't know any better I would swear its AMOLED when I saw it, it was amazing.
Surprised at the negative reaction - I think this surpasses any of my expectations for the InstinctQ.
I like the dedicated numbers on the keyboard... very useful in texting and emailing. Is that an optical trackpad?
This looks like a great alternative to WinMo... TouchPro2 or InstinctQ?
TP2 wannabe!
This is a very nice looking phone! People on here really think the G1 looks better? Seriously? HTC's G1 is a hideously repulsive device. I've seen it, handled it, no thanks! Looks and feels like a Fisher Price phone.
Now the mytouch3G, different story. LOVE the new look! THAT should have been the G1 but instead they got, that thing they call a smartphone.
Nice job Sammy!
Thank you for finally encapsulating the horror that is the ugliness of the G1. "Fisher-Price phone". Brilliant.
The Mytouch 3g/Magic is a beautiful phone. It's hardware won't quite be up to what android will be able to dish out though I feel, otherwise I would have jumped on it a month ago.
Much like in the computer advancements in the late 90s, the hardware was struggling to keep up with what the software designers were putting out. The mobile space is at a similar paradigm currently. I think by next year the hardware that comes out on upper-tier phones will be solid on android and its improvements for years to come.
Is Sense an HTC thing? I wish this one would have Sense.
Sense ultimately is just a theme, if they could put it on an iPhone I am sure someone with enough interest can easily implement if for Android handsets...
In fact it is a good idea Sense really does look tops.
I absolutely hope that Sprint launches this phone. With this and the Hero in the line-up coming, I feel like Sprint may actually have hope. I have inside information from some of the mid-level managers that Sprint is planning on further building out it's network in some of the more rural area's (with EVDO Rev. A from Launch!) that are currently lacking any sort of provider at all. Which is smart -- so.....to Sprint: I am rooting for ya Big Yella! I love my service in all ways, and I hope you can catch back up!
@ Mankato, as of now T Mobile has two Android phones, that would be the same number Sprint has when this and the Hero come out. Sprint has plans for more too, so yeah they are catching up in the Android game.
Not really. By the time Sprint releases their Android phone(s) , T-Mobile will also have few more android in their lineup. catching up would be appropriate to describe if T-Mobile stops releasing android phone and wait for Sprint to release theirs. But that is not the world we live in. Do we?? And I am pretty sure T-mobile also have Android plans for next year just like Sprint,AT&T and Verizon.
i dont know anout the people calling it a teens phone .... im 35 and i think this looks to be exactly what i am looking for.
i considered the PRE (actually had 2 in my hand on launch day) but the keyboard is too small.i need a slideslide for key space (big thumbs) and i dnot want a ramp on my phone(g1).
so far im waiting for shules or now the instintQ, cant make my move to the new year so ill just keep drooling
Ramp?
looking good, though I think I'll still try to hold out for this supposed high-end Sammy phone at the end of the year for Sprint.
IF..all the rumors are close to being true, and this launches in Oct with the Hero, Sprint will be on level playing field with TMO, if not ahead of the game. T-Mobile's fatal flaw is they drag their feet when bringing new hardware to the market. The MyTouch has been on the market for what, one month now? TMO doesn't want to cannibalize their possible profits by offering an newer, cooler Android phone just months after another.
You really can't blame them...it's a good business practice. They most likely will have the Morrison coming out near the end of the year, marketed for teens. The Galaxy and Huawei handsets are rumors to be on the way as well, but considering their track record, TMO will likely string out any Andorid releases to minimum of 6 months apart in order to get the most profits they can without angering customers who get stuck on lengthy contract and might get angered if the newest, coolest handset gets released every other week. (A little dramatic...I know)
So, once again, IF all the Sprint rumors are true, and they have the Hero for full touchscreen, AND This InstinctQ for full QWERTY loving folks, both rolled out in Oct, Sprint will VERY much be back on level playing field with TMO for the Android crown.
Now, the true question remains: Will AT&T and Verizon ever get their Android act together?
looking nice great phone sprint keep it up
If you weren't a Sprint-Troll, what would you be? A NYC Shellgame hustler?
@ onethingtoadd
Did Sprint kill your family or something?
@RicoRich196 who said: "Did Sprint kill your family or something?"
No. Sprint only killed whatever integrity might have existed in the wireless industry by its employ of internet spamming, thug-wannabes and low-brows. That's all.
Damn...so they did kill your family. -__- nah I'm fuckin with you
That is one lonely dude to believe that everybody happy with thier service and the upcoming lineup is employed by Sprint. Don't see this enthusiasm for so-called spammers of att and vzw, but to each thier own
